6.8 mill for a midfielder that guarantees goals every season....yes its a missed opportunity

Wouldn't work well in a 4-4-2, would work well i a 4-4-1-1 just behind the striker. Would have to be in the hole in a 4-2-3-1. In my opinion at least.

as everyone these days seems to hate 442, its not even an issue then, thats why it makes no sense not going for him and making sure we get him, especially as we are a club that cannot afford big name players and their transfer fees and salaries

I think it's important to consider how his presence in the team will affect us in general. Who do we leave out, how will he affect how we play, will we create more or less chances, how many opportunities does he need to score, could missed shots have become better opportunities if the ball was kept in play etc.

A scouting report will cover in detail all the strengths and weaknesses of a player and what he brings to a team.

I won't turn this into a "what are the differences between 4-4-1-1 and 4-2-3-1" thread, but in my opinion those formations can be very close.

The problem with a "in the hole" player is that there is only one place in the team where he can play. When we already have VdV that plays there any player we bring in is going to be a backup player. And since we have Defoe or will have a couple of other strikers that player will also compete with the strikers and going 4-4-2. Both Kranjcar and Pienaar has that in the hole role as their favoured position and have just about never played a game there for us.

VdV has at least showed that he can work on the right and he has played as a deeper midfielder for Holland quite a bit. Sigurdsson has shown nothing like that so far in his career.

That is part of the problem with a 4-4-1-1 with two wingers and a "number 10", you end up with a lot of players that play one position only and a first choice and backup player unless you can afford two excellent players for the same position. A 4-2-3-1 where the 3 attacking midfielders can play multiple positions gives a lot more room to rotate and actually have and use a squad. Perhaps Sigurdsson could function in a system like that, but like I said I have seen nothing to indicate that he can so far.

Would rather we went for the cheaper, and more versatile Hoilett as a squad option who can then cover multiple positions in our team and thus get more playing time and develop better.

well that applies to every player then, whether its Remy, Dembele, J Cole, or any other player we are linked with

Looks like that Allan Dixon guy is also aware of the photo, and he looks more like he's planning to steal the camera/phone later and accidentally drop it into an acid bath and/or strange the picture taker.

It also looks like Allan Dixon is in a position to reveal POTL's identity if someone were to mail him the picture and he actually wanted to check out who was in the box next to his during that game.
You never know. :)

Obviously, which is why someone like Darren Bent is a complete waste of money. He doesn't add 20 goals to a team, most of those goals would come from other players if he wasn't there. The team would play in a different way. A midfielder that's looking to shoot most of the time will of course score some goals, but how many of thosr missed could've turned into something else.

i see we are slightly linked with Ola Toivonen at PSV, again an attacking midfielder in the Sigurdsson mould with plenty of goals in his locker.

he doesnt look to shoot from distance all the time that would prevent us creating chances for others.....Sigurdsson makes those late ghosting runs into the box and is adept at getting on the end of balls played into the area. He is a threat in the air from set pieces, can take free kicks himself, there is much more to his game than just having a pop from 25 yards at every given opportunity

I don't really know much about him, but often people will look at someone's stats, see a few goals and think 'oh, he must be good'.

How reliable is walesonline.com ? This would certainly be a surprise for me if correct

I think it's right that we have an option on keeping him for another season if we want. I would be surprised if walesonline were the ones to break that news if it did happen, but you never know I suppose.

Would depend on other players imo, having 3 aging injury prone central defenders in Gallas, King and Nelsen isn't a great situation. We should look to keep one or two of those and it depends on their injury situation as much as anything. I wouldn't mind if Nelsen was kept on, did well for us this season imo.

He also seems to be a good (even very good) passer and quite capable of creating chances for others and doing link-up play.

[Update 51] berba1981 onRedknapp

Lots of whispers that Harry could be gone in a few days !!!!

if Levy is buying players without the agreement of Redknapp then it would be no surprise if he walks
