nothing more than a very poor man's VDV

Joe Cole has all the ability in the world. He's just got absolutely zero vision, which is why he never became a top player.

As the 4th choice striker I'd have Yakubu over Louis Saha. The guy still knows where the goal is. Worked with Harry before. If he is a free (transfer fee-wise), we could do a lot worse

Edit: didnt see he has 2 years left. Wont be free then. #-o

You don't need 4 strikers when you are only playing 1 up top.

2 and 2 halves (i.e vdV and a wide player who can cover in an emergence, like Remy) is ample.

Why do you keep pushing this? Everyone who watches French football regularly(I don't) would say the complete opposite to that. I agree with not needing 4 strikers though.

has anyone been following j.cole in France at all ?

im actually coming round to the idea of having him a back up option for Bale/Lennon, wouldn't hurt to have another Englishman in the squad - not so sure he'd be happy as 2nd choice though. Or playing for Spurs for that matter

he might not be the best in the world but he certainly has enough about him to cause teams problems

id take Yakubu as back up fo sho

As they would say:

He would be a great "impact" sub and his record against ManYoo (last season), is better than any of our current crop of strikers?.

Just using the assumption next season we stick with the same options as we had from Jan-May this year, i.e Ade/VDV/Defoe/Saha.
I would swap Yak for Saha, but only him.

Not sure the Remy deal will go ahead, and Leandro either, wouldnt surprise me if Defoe stayed, so I could see us in August with possibly Ade/VDV/Defoe + 1

L'Equipe reporting that Hazard has chosen...

chelsea. definitely not for the money.

and Swansea agreed a fee for Sigurdsson. ?ú7.2m apparently. big money for them.

Because he's 25, and that is where he's played every season, apart from the last one where he was used up top as cover for Gignac.

He also doesn't have the hold up play to be able to play as a #9 in England - his whole game is about running with ball.

Do you really think Defoe will spend another season on the bench?

He's 30 now and has spent his whole career (bar a year at Pompey) getting splinters watching Keane then Rafa. If we sign any forward who has 2 legs, he'll stay 4th in the pecking order (for a team that usually only plays 1 up).

I can see QPR doing a big deal for Defoe, Jenas and Bentley (a bit like the one we did with Pompey for our deadwood years ago).

It it, but if you consider how much more tv revenue they will have made this season, plus probably a full stadium for every match in addition to relatively low wages...

They should have a little more to throw around, it's not like they were spending outside their means to get promoted..

The thing is Joe Cole is nothing remotely like Lennon or Bale. There is a reason why Liverpool got rid of him and even in France he was not consistent enough to start every week. I would rather sack Harry then sign Cole. There are younger players with more potential available like Moses and Hoilett.

Both would have made an impact over the course of this season IMHO

Fletcher has a 1 in 3 goal ratio for Wolves, that kind of player will simply not getr us into the CL. As for Jarvis I could argue that both Moses and Hoilett would have made an impact over the course of this season. Heck Ba he available for ?ú7m he would have made an impact as well. Fletcher for ?ú10m or Cisse (at Saudi Sportswashing Machine) for ?ú10m shucks that is a tough one? Do you think Cisse would have made an impact at Spurs this season too?

I am not trying to be a sart arse it is just that I honestly believe there are better options out there than Fletcher or Jarvis

strong words !
i know he isn't particularly similar to Lennon or Bale but could be used as cover for the wings was more what i was getting at - id rather we signed someone younger with potential of course but when it get's to 23:55 on transfer deadline day and all we have signed is 45 year old back up goalkeeper id settle for j.cole i think ;)

Why the notion that every player we sign should single handedly get us CL qualification?

Fletcher is a very good player, composed and intelligent (particularly in his movement). As a squad striker he would have made a huge impact on our season. Its a simple statement and one I believe to be true.

I havent promoted him as better than those you mention, in fact I havent promoted him at all aside from saying he would have made an impact and I certainly havent mentioned the others.

The Fletcher rumour was put up, some posters scoffed at the idea (snobbery IMO, being boring old relegated Wolves players), I said I think he could be a good move.

As to Moses/Hoilett etc, I dont disagree - but again they also werent mentioned or compared in anyway. A link to Jarvis was posted and I commented on it.

Jarvis is a decent winger, can find the goal but more importantly plays for the team and crosses very well. Had we had him in the squad when Bale was unfit he would have made a big contribution IMHO.

Not saying we should sign him, but you can't really use that stat considering he played for the worst team in the league and they only managed 40 goals in total. In a better team he would score more.
