The thing is Joe Cole is nothing remotely like Lennon or Bale. There is a reason why Liverpool got rid of him and even in France he was not consistent enough to start every week. I would rather sack Harry then sign Cole. There are younger players with more potential available like Moses and Hoilett.

It's a good thing Cole isn't like Lennon or Bale. Teams know that our wingers are all about pace, if you nullify the space in behind the defence Bale and Lennon offer very little else as they don't have the skills to beat a player one on one (in general, obviously not saying they never have). Cole offers something different that we don't have ie actual ball skills.....

Why the notion that every player we sign should single handedly get us CL qualification?

Fletcher is a very good player, composed and intelligent (particularly in his movement). As a squad striker he would have made a huge impact on our season. Its a simple statement and one I believe to be true.

I havent promoted him as better than those you mention, in fact I havent promoted him at all aside from saying he would have made an impact and I certainly havent mentioned the others.

The Fletcher rumour was put up, some posters scoffed at the idea (snobbery IMO, being boring old relegated Wolves players), I said I think he could be a good move.

As to Moses/Hoilett etc, I dont disagree - but again they also werent mentioned or compared in anyway. A link to Jarvis was posted and I commented on it.

Jarvis is a decent winger, can find the goal but more importantly plays for the team and crosses very well. Had we had him in the squad when Bale was unfit he would have made a big contribution IMHO.

added to this. i wouldnt mind someone pointing out a team where every single player on their roster is CL quality

Reported Emirates Marketing Project and Barcelona target Thiago Silva has guaranteed that he will not leave AC Milan

Yes but you know what our fans are like. If a player can't run fast and in a straight line then they have no right being on the "wing". Not that I'd particularly want Joe Cole but that's what would happen.

SkySports also say Wigan's Diame has been allowed to leave Senegal's training camp to discuss a transfer to another PL club.

Load of nonsense. 30 goals in 96 games. 1 in 3, for Burnley and Wolves - hardly teams who create 10 good chances each week. He's hit double figures in the league in both seasons at Wolves.

Personally, I'd take him - I think he'd go for about ?ú7m if offered - and it would be a steal. Notice how most of his goals are tap ins, or headers - something we notoriously have sucked at the last 2 or 3 years.

The irony is that lower league teams often create more clear cut chances for their strikers than better teams. Strikers in lower league teams usually have more time and space to operate in also. The sort of strikers we need are ones who can get goals against defences who are sitting deep and in numbers. Not saying Fletcher can't do that (I haven't really paid attention to him) but football is littered with examples of prolific strikers at lower levels (even in the lower teams in the top flight) who are free scoring, get signed up by a better club and have their goalscoring dry up.

Playing time and he wants to play in his favoured position(#10), guess Utd and City couldn't guarantee that.

Maybe I just think I there are a number of superior players out there on teh market if we look hard enough.

Also, it is all very well and good for people to take player x as a backup, but remember when Ade was out injured, all of a sudden Saha that people seemed to be happy to have as a backup all of a sudden did not look such a good idea when we had to rely on him for goals.

As for Cole, his lack of pace is not the problem for me. I honestly do not think he has become half the player he looked he would as a youngster. Both Chelsea and Liverpool found that out which is why he spent last season in France, and on ?ú100k a week? WTF?

I thought the point of this conversation/thread is to take rumours at face value and discuss the actual rumours. Plucking names out of the air isnt really doing that is it?

Personally I would have preferred Fletcher to Saha as a reserve and believe I said as much in Jan.

I thought Liverpool had him on ?ú90k, either way though its ridiculous. He has great technique but as GB says no vision - Ill add no discipline either. Not what we need IMO.
