Which player would you like to see take over from Luka Modric?

Self explanatory I would have thought. Three goal keepers of first team ability. As in, could be regulars.

I wouldn't consider 2 of them first choice for us, personally - perhaps for bottom 10 teams at best. Or Top 10 Championship clubs.

In addition - I never want to see Cudicini starting again

Given that we needed to build a new front line, replace King, replace Modric and get support for the wings Ive always considered the GK position to be less than essential this window.

If Saturday's match is anything to go by, then either Friedel needs to learn to be more comfortable on the ball or we need to replace him.

You can't base a possession team around a keeper who keeps punting to a 5'5" forward.

Seriously, this obsession which some people have (not necessarily you) with Leandro/Damiao is just embarrassing. People have been getting their hopes up over him for almost two years yet there is no chance of us getting him. Why not kid ourselves that we'll get Messi as well? Leandro is a full, established Brazilian international, young, coming from a club which has just pocketed a big cheque from selling another top young talent and he'll want to move to a big team who can pay top dollar and offer him CL football. Thats not us at the moment. We are trying to finance a stadium and, even if we could somehow attract him, we therefore wont be spending the £25m or whatever it'll take to get in on any single player in this window, whether Leandro, Moutinho or whoever

I bet we do sign him eventually. And I bet he will then be an unmitigated Rasiak like disaster.

So if we can ship out Bassong, Dawson, Gio, Modric, and Defoe and loan out Bentley, Jenas, Rose, Huddlestone...how much money does that bring in to allow us to complete our business? I don't know much about loan fees but I guess we would be able to raise maybe £6m from sending the 4 of them on loan for a year?

Maybe £4m for Bassong, £8m for Dawson, £5m for Gio, £35m for Modric, and £10m for Defoe.

That's almost £70 million. For that, could we do Lloris, Moutinho, Ade, Leandro, and cover for Bale and Lennon (Adam Johnson or another...or maybe even just keep Gio)

Lloris for 12, Moutinho for 24, Ade for 5, Leandro for 15, Johnson for 10. Give or take a few million on each of those fees and I'd say that just about works. And surely we must have something to spend without having to sell ourselves...it can be done.

The M'Villa link complicates things, but maybe we are just in that race to push the price up for Arsenal when they sign him...

I have absolutely no doubt it would be preferable to get the right sort of keeper in, just that in the context of the rest of the squad and its requirements GK is the least priority IMO.

We can make do at GK until Jan/2013 Summer

Gotta assume that a deal for Adam Johnson is near to completion for someone if the Sinclair deal is oing through...

Common consensus is that Leandro is interested in coming to us. However about the fee, you could well be right. Although personally I do think we could spend big money on the right player......

This guy (or kid) must just go on Newsnow scouring for all snippets of information, then just put it all into one sentence and cast it off as his own. He always states the inevitable and tells us nothing we do not already know. I hate him more than John Terry, Frank Lampard, Jack Wheelchair and Frimpong all put together.

Just out of interest, why do people hate Lampard so much?

I know he played for West Ham, and now plays for Chelski, but he doesn't strike me as particularly dislikeable

Sunderland look like they're about to splash some serious cash. Hopefully some of it will come our way.

All three of them could get regular games in the premier league.

They may well be right for us and our ambitions but they are each first team quality.

Its not like a situation where we have one GK and 2 youth prospects sitting behind him.

I know he leaves peoples hearts in their mouths but the year we got in the Champions League I truly felt Gomes saved us 8/10 points with crucial saves he probably had no right to make (there is a montage on YouTube somewhere). The thing with the lad is confidence and he is now in a situation where no one has given him the opportunity to find his confidence back. Redknapps old school treatment would have killed someone like Gomes...

One of the best midfielders of his generation - I presume it's the fact he played for a very successful rival, won trophies and was generally the 20 goal/season midfielder we've been missing for a decade - i.e. the bird you have a crush on at school but choose to be mean to her instead.

I think I'd rather see a forward and a keeper. Looking at the match on Saturday and some of pre-season, those are the two positions that we need to fill to play the style AVB looks to be trying to play. As much as I'd love two great forwards and a Modric replacement, we have players who can fulfil the backup forward and the Modric role just not as well as I'd like.

We don't currently have a reliable Keeper who can distribute the ball well (essential to possession IMO).

The next season he lost us 8/10 points.

For a goalkeeper consistency is pretty important, Gomes was anything but.

The fact he refused to do the YouTube test says it all for me

maybe he can't be arsed. He has no reason to prove himself. He posts on twitter to his followers and has set his profile to don't display if you aren't a follower of him.

IMO these are the priorities:

1) striker número uno

2) the blasted winger I've been after since the 1-0 win over West Brom last year!

3) Striker número deux

4) creative midfielder if Modric leaves

5) Goalkeeper

BUT however much I would like to see all addressed during this window, only the first 2 are capable of making me combust should we to sign them... The next2 would make me grumble a it...or a lot... And the last one has the potential to annoy me at some point but not massive potential

You would replace Freidel before Gomes? Cant agree with that at all.

While I do agree BF needs replacing, Modric is so essential to our possession game and advancing us into attacking positions I think we would be better served to compromise on GK.

After all, a GK with terrible distribution can be compensated with instruction to just give the ball to a ball playing defender. Gallas, Vertonghen or Ekotto would do just fine as a quick release for him.

Seems reasonable, although no guessing where too...

Apparently AJ is on £80k a week and Sunderland would offer him £50k (according to one of the reports I read today). They are also looking at (another!) bulk buy from us. Seems MON is stamping his feet to get support from the board

Agree about positions however, given how we couldnt retain possession on Sat, I would re-order them as:
1) CF
2) Modric replacement
3=) Winger
3=) GK
5) 3rd choice CF (or alternative option alongside Defoe)

Cannot believe we're down to the last 10 days. However at least it might make some people start to appreciate our financial situation
