Son Heung-Min

I've been thinking about Son lately and wondered why he only plays on the left now. Didn't he use to play quite a bit on the right side in the early years here? Seem to remember him cutting in from the right and curling them into the top corner with his left foot quite regularly.
He's about as two footed as it gets, especially when it comes to shooting.

Maybe some time on the right would reignite him and make him find back to himself?
He was brilliant today, but still..

Under Poch there was more flexibility in our forwards swapping positions during a game so yes he did change sides and play on the right as I recall. And also of course he wasn’t pushed so far out wide.

The ball for Sarr - could it have been any better? No. You could see Son really focus on playing the perfect ball. Sarr cool as you like, finished it off.

I wish we'd sold him in the summer. It's just sad seeing him like this.
I've been a huge Son fan. Apart from being a very nice chap, he's offered nothing this season.

His ability to hide when the opposite winger has the ball is infuriating. Needs dropping
It's sad, the more I see him like this the more I'm turning against him and forgetting what he has done in previous years. He shouldn't be near the team. I've no idea why his contract was extended for a year. How he wasn't replaced at half time by Moore is beyond me.

He is the Jedi master of staying of out the image when his opposite attacks the line
I had a big argument with a mate of mine at the weekend and even took some still images to highlight it but I was wrong
People slate Johnson for his tap ins as his only thing but they are what son would get if he attacked the box rather than ran away backwards
And when it comes to a defender being physical he makes Brian Gil look like the hulk. He doesn’t engage them at all and just cowers like my 8 year old does when I tell him off.

What ha

He has something in his contract IMO
Even when we’re at our weakest we have had a modicum of options on that side and we star5 him, we even more him to CF to keep him on. It’s bizarre
What I will say is his set piece delivery is great. I assume it’s because he can still do the technical stuff but his oppo is 10 yards away

He is the worse captain we ve had since Loris 😅.
Bad enough giving it to a keeper, we now have a captain who doesnt lead at all, and shouldnt be a starter. Give the captaincy to Kulu, Gray or Romero.

I have a theory, at least the only one I can make fit. Sonny is cleared loved by the players, especially the younger ones. With how we are signing we are clearly transitioning into a much younger team where over the next seasons we will lineup with:

Vic/Kin

Spence/?? (assume Porro gone)
VDV/Danso
Vuk/Drag/Phillips (assume Romero gone)
Udogie/?? (Davies gone)

Sarr/Devine (maybe)
Gray/?? (Biss gone)
Bergvall/??

Kulu/Yang/Odbert
Solanke/(whichever youth player makes it)
Moore/Johnson

Assumed the older players will be gone or slowly pushed out, now that’s a young team and to throw them in now is setting up to fail, so I think Sonny is still there to support. The injuries have just made it worse meaning he isn’t getting a break.

And that's on Ange for not benching him or using him towards the end of game. He makes me angry and we all love Son.

I have to turn my anger towards Ange!

Sonny is still loved by our fans because of what he did, not what he does
He is a superstar player who currently, and I think now permanently, can’t play football at this pace

Said it before, but Son will be the rope Ange hangs himself with. Liverpool have VvD clattering our forward and scoring a header, and we have our captain getting bullied and losing possession - how does that inspire the team in an environment like Anfield? If I was an opposing manager, I would target Son, he's worth at least a couple of turnovers. He is a club legend, but should be limited to super sub, for both his and our benefit.

Just hit him hard once and it’s game over for him
He hangs his head and stands in the space between the full back and the winger hopping along

Johnson literally does nothing apart from tap ins. Neither him or Son should be anywhere near the team as neither are good enough if we’re serious about challenging for honours. There’s nothing wrong in admitting that. We’ve gone from Son, Kane, Eriksen and Alli to the nonsense we have to watch now. Our attack is so average. And people were saying last season we had a better front line than Saudi Sportswashing Machine, Arsenal and Liverpool 😂

Broski in the summer we were telling them that a front line of Son, Solanke and Johnson with Werner as rotation wouldn't cut it. They didn't listen. Some people judge on emotion and sentiment and some judge with our eyes and reality. Unfortunately reality always wins out over emotion and sentimentality.

10 goals and 8 assists this season all competitions.
No fit options.
Overplayed and certainly (at this point) under-performing.
But he still has 10 goals and 8 assists this season...regardless of what you think, he still deserves respect and a degree of understanding when it comes to how/why he is in our side right now...
