Son Heung-Min

son is one of our best players this season - all the stats support it.

pool game he went solo and hit the crossbar - best chance in the game. for whatever reason the midfield just could not push up - its the coach's tactics that is affecting his play

in season 22/23 son played most of the season with injury.
ange admits himself he doesn't hestitate putting the player out there with an injury without remorse

that's why i want ange gone as fast as possible - sick of seeing players being stifled and want to see them played their strengths and oblivious to how to get the best out of the team (its not just about players trying to keep fit)

from that link above, this comment is interesting and relevant today

10 goals and 8 assists this season all competitions.
No fit options.
Overplayed and certainly (at this point) under-performing.
But he still has 10 goals and 8 assists this season...regardless of what you think, he still deserves respect and a degree of understanding when it comes to how/why he is in our side right now...
Of course he has our respect and still managed to get G and As.

I don't blame him for playing 90mins all the flipping time and or being asked to play CF. I put that on Ange. Again he may not have had great options but options he had. Lanks.

He will no doubt play 90 2mw. Play someone else. Give him a break and have him ready for Utd.
We are not winning the FA cup

I have all love for him. He's been my favourite Tottenham player of the last 10 years, ahead of Kane, ahead of Eriksen etc but that doesn't change the fact of his physical decline.

It was obvious last season and was spoken about but instead of addressing the issue ahead of time and building a system to take care of that decline we've instead closed our eyes and pretended he's the same player he always was.

So I have no complaints about Son, you'll notice I don't really have much to say about him because it's not his fault. He is what he is now but the club are the ones who are refusing to see that reality. It was evident last season so why with a further year on his legs did we think he would do any better?

This season Son's role should have been as a rotational striker and additional forward when goals are needed. The man you bring on when we need a goal, a man who you can trust to finish. This man should not be starting as our LWF in 2025 and injuries are not the reason he is. Before any injuries were an issue he was the starter, the fact we brought flipping useless Werner back tells you we intended to have Son play a significant amount of minutes on the left.

PPP tinkle poor planning
But then we don’t know what the plan was for Odebert or RichTea
What still worries me is he hasn’t grasped the basics of Ange ball that would increase that goal tally loads. Just stop backing away from the goal FFS. Attack the space. It’s so easy even Johnson can do it and Werner too but sonny seems to want to stay away. Maybe he thinks his legs won’t get him there but I just cannot work out why he backs off every time… he doesn’t gamble on anything and for such an experienced player he is showing no braver6 which is a must for his role

I can and do agree with most of that, what was a big mistake by Ange was naming him as capt as it makes if far harder to leave him out.

Maddison was named one of the captains and it hasn't stopped him from being left out of starting XIs. Until the Jan window the only real alternative to Son on the left has been Werner and Son is always gonna get picked ahead of him when neither are pulling up trees. Had Odobert not been injured my guess is we would have seen Son rested/rotated more often.

Fair enough but [ without checking] i would think Maddison has missed more games because of several injurys.

IIRC he first got benched when Ange started to move away from the 4-1-4-1 with 2 #10s, and Kulu became the preferred sole #10. And then in big games in the past couple of months even when Kulu started wide right we'd often use 3 more defensive CMs rather than Maddison + 2.

Think his injury was more recent than all of that (although I haven't actually checked either!)

According to transfermarkt he started 7 of the last 14 that he was available for on the bench

I agree with you. Especially that last paragraph. We should've been using him judiciously, not flogging the last fragments of brick out of him! Regarding Werner, totally agreed. Great post.

I think we tried to address that with the signing of Odobert

I wish we'd spent a little more on someone like Eze who could've addressed two current issues in the squad (8/10 and left wing).

I simply never saw enough of Odobert to have an opinion. I mean yes, you're right, I am sure that was the plan (with Werner a third option) but Odobert never caught my eye at Burnley and he hasn't had enough time with us obviously (I remember thinking he looked pretty raw).

I'd never heard of him before we signed him, but he was thrown straight in at LWF and cost a fair chunk of change so I think it's fair to assume what the intention was.

I think we have to remember the Eze situation though. Olise went early in the summer and made it so hard to land Palace's other key players. Eze also had 3 years left on his contract. I reckon the transfer it would have taken to get Eze would have been bigger than we've ever paid before.

I still scratch my head a little that Ange didn't seem to want Solomon as a squad option. I don't think he's amazing or anything but do think it was a more logical choice over Werner. He brings those dribbling skills we've been missing.

I am led to believe we could've got him at the end of the season before Olise left.
