Son Heung-Min

Do you think that his basics became worse after he won the golden Boot? Or that part of him didn't change despite scoring loads in the past?

It's interesting, I think's Son success (Golden Boot, getting his nation to WC) last year, instead of giving him confidence, it feels like it's put expectations on him (from himself), and the inevitable dip in form combined with those expectations is causing him to struggle more. His body language live shows he's very frustrated with himself.

Perhaps the pressure has finally gotten to him. I mean, he's far bigger in Korea than Beckham ever was over here, talisman of the national team, etc. etc. Until recently, his career was just on the up. Now he's reached the age where he's on the way down, so maybe that's playing on his mind and he's letting the pressure get in. A poor World Cup (by his standards) wouldn't have helped, and I'm sure the mask isn't helping either.

I've never been anywhere near elite sportsman status (the clue's in the name!) but I do remember getting pretty down in my 30s as it became clear that I was getting slower and niggles were taking a lot longer to heal.

We all love Son and he has been brilliant for us but he has never really been a player who has a great first touch. He does things by instinct and when it came/comes off it looks great but he has also looked clumsy with his control. There is no doubt that he has had a poor season and when that happens his first touch stands out as clumsy ( at times).

I have watched a lot of great players over the years ( and in his way Son has been one of them) but when time catches up with them their form shows just that. Is it that time for Son? i hope not i really do but there is no doubt that he has been a shadow of himself this season.

I agree, and would add that he seems to have taken on a whole new level of national responsibility which has weighed him down. Add his increasing off the field profile/endorsements, and it looks like he is tired and anxious.

It is THE main question here isn't it, especially with regards to his pace. I believe he has another two seasons playing his game (pace, etc) and that we need to get him running onto things once more. Kulusevski being out a lot of the time has really messed with his flow too.

Kulu missing is overlooked often with Son. Attacking players also rely on being teed up in advanced areas, something we miss a large portion of without Deki. Balls across the box and playing in Kane or Son is something his replacement or FBs just don't produce. Let's see how he is when we get the full attacking 3 back

And Perisic. A lot has changed but i don't think we much better off. Kulu is the one we miss most.
Funny thing is our players get injured regardless of whether they go to the world cup or not.

When does it get it responsible to start him? Probably a couple of games ago. Give the man a breather and bring him on for the last 30 minutes, it's like broken Eriksen all over again.
The worst thing that happened was him scoring the hat-trick off the bench. If he'd been brick that day he'd probably be still on the bench.

I understand if Richarlison wasn't fit to start today... as others have stated, he really ought not start against City. The fact that Conte didn't sub him off was once again strange, but still a regularity. No mask today, thought the juju would be dispelled but I was wrong.

I've been saying this mostly for Son's (but really the team's) sake. He's gotten drunk from winning the Golden Boot and in reality, now he needs a golden boot to his bum to wake him up a bit. Traditional Korean discipline is the only way to fix this situation.

I’d be stunned if his discipline was still exemplary
But his confidence is probably at its lowest since his first season here when he wanted to leave

Needs to be left on the bench and used late on in matches. There is no doubt (imo) that this his his worse season for us.
Something needs to be done to help him get back to even half his best. And maybe there is a manager getting paid millions of pounds a year who could do that. Certainly starting him every game hasn’t worked.

Well lets hope when/if we get all our front players fit ( we have been unlucky with that so far) Conte leaves him on the bench and hope that its no more that just a bad run of form from him.

True. But against the goons he could have played an extra midfielder and tried a front two of Kane/Kulu!

Do not disagree, but i hate to use injurys as a excuse but the fact we have lost Kulu, Bents, Richie and Romero so much it has effected us badly. Not making excuses for Conte but the players we have lost with injury and illness has hit us badly.

I know all teams get injurys but ours seem to have taken out probably our best players which has not helped at all.
