Son Heung-Min

He’s just not working hard enough, it’s mostly lack of concentration.

I posted about this on the match thread. He got 1 v 1 with their defence yesterday. That’s where I expect a burst of pace from Sonny and a finish. He didn’t take it on which hints at physical decline or a mental issue for me. I don’t think it’s work ethic.

@Bedfordspurs makes a good point above. His use of the ball is horrible at the moment. Maybe he’s overthinking rather than doing what comes naturally. He strikes me as the sort of lad who would have a poor run of form eat away at him whereas, say, Harry would shrug it off and bury the next chance.

He needs to sort himself out. He has some credit in the bank but not enough to hold a place if this continues for much longer and Richarlison comes back.

Against Lestah it was all his natural game
He came on and shot on sight
Yesterday he got in the way
He ran into areas where players where and every ally he dropped deeper to get space
I can’t believe that finally defenders have clocked how he plays but he is trying to adapt and IMO over thinking maybe

Lack of confidence in abundance and now making poor decisions however he is not now a FT bad player BUT Conte needs to work it out.

There were occasions yesterday I thought he might click into gear, 2 or 3 times beating his first man then a heavy touch into a crowd....

The overthinking could be part of it, he is at his best when it's pure instinct rather than having time. Yesterday he tried a couple of passes that had no chance of coming off and would've needed to go through about 3 defenders.
His decision making in general has been poor, shooting from ridiculous positions, trying to dribble in positions peak Messi wouldn't have done and poor passing. Maybe if he just kept it simple and slowly built up his confidence...
I hope I'm wrong but I do think it's a permanent decline at this stage.

Really? Top scorer last year, only 30

I wouldn't look at half a season and think it's permanent, especially based on Sons previous.

I would also take into account the fact that most of our side have failed to fire this season, we have stuttered up to now

Some players drop off suddenly. It's the fact that he's been really poor bar the 20 mins against Leicester and shown nothing to suggest that he is still has it in him.
As I said, I hope I'm wrong, it's very rare but does happen :p

Yeh l get it, the saving grace here is that people have wrongly predicted his decline for the last GHod knows how long

I hope you’re right and I certainly wouldn’t write him off or anything. But this is his longest prolonged spell of poor form in the last few years and his general play is awful.

Torres fell off a cliff and never recovered. Shevchenko too. It does happen.

Whether it's decline (which let's say is not necessarily always age-related like with Dele) or temporary regression, too early to say for sure, but judging from his WC performances, I can say he's not completely out of it. I honestly think it's partly ego/pressure from winning the golden boot last season; maybe he's got his father in the back of his mind saying he needs to go up a level to be world class.

He really does need to come to terms with the fact that he's trying to do too much and he's letting the whole team down and that he can't keep banking on his past performances to prop himself up. Get back to basics first, then build on that. For starters, STOP DRIBBLING unless inside the opposition box. If he's not going to score goals, at least build them. He had several great assists in the World Cup, maybe he should be trading places with Kane. He can be an excellent player even if he's not scoring as much and he needs to adapt his game because he's hurting the team at times.

I'm sure you've all seen the stereotypes about Asian parents being very demanding of their children and all that. At some point, it's just too much IMO especially when it comes to a sport where you can express yourself and be creative. Figure skating can be expressive but it's a drilled routine. We watch football because it has moments of brilliance and creativity: he needs to simply start having fun again because we all want to see him smiling.

I disagree, we like to play on the break, he’s had plenty of opportunities with the ball at his feet in one on one situations, he’s just had a lot of bad touches and poor decisions.
not enough of "playing on the break" to me- i like what southgate does with kane - having him mostly in a deeper position and staying there to draw the defence out. conte has kane much higher up the pitch where he is man marked almost all the time.

Son takes up a deep position when we are defending corners for example, where he has time and space.

He's one of the most consistent attacking players in the league over the last 2 seasons

Not sure he is TBH, plays about 30 games a season and comes off the bench for 3rd of them, add in his injuries and sulks not sure he is consistent

Don't get me wrong, I infact like him but he is definitely a player, akin to Son who works in bunches more than consistently.

I meant wrt output, best English attacking midfielder over the last couple of years in terms of G/A
