Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

I'm looking at the bigger picture. all the signs I've mentioned are there, we just got away with it in a pre season game.
when it counts from next week onwards, youl see him disappear again.

he has talent for sure, but off the top of my head at least i can't think of a striker less suited for the PL.
he
needs
to
go!

Lol as normal like in every thread you have to back track once you get found out. Your original post was 'in the first half we looked like a team with purpose then Soldado came on and it fell apart'.

Now its from next week he will be rubbish:lol: Youre arguments are so poor. In the words of the great Veron23 hahahahahaha

found out? what planet are you on? i said the system fell apart and it did. the replies were to point to the fact that he scored to which i replied that just sugar coats the fact that you can't see how **** he is and if you cant see it now yowl see it when the season starts when he isn't playing in friendlies against demotivated and depleted teams.

"Found out"... honestly child, you are deluded. like i said, if you are not clever enough to see the bigger picture and just focus on a meaningless result then you will notice when its right in front of your eyes too late when we are lying 6th in the table. (assuming we start with Soldado as the main striker)

congratulations for taking things on face value... you are a genius

Re: Official - Soldado

Yeah, the game opened up in the 2nd half, but do some of you think it was because Soldado played and not Ade???
I can't say that Bobbie was at fault for Schalke running through our midfield, and he was not at fault for us making some terrible passes which lead to Schalke counter attack a couple of times.

Re: Official - Soldado

you don't live in the real world. what you wish to happen and what does happen is not the same. i also wish for us to play like barcelona but in the PL you can't pick locks every single game. you need to mix and match. if you've ever watched the game you would know that ALL teams come under pressure and sometimes you do in fact just have to get the ball up early which allows the defenders sitting deep to push forward. if you do this with adebayor you have a chance of scoring. if you do this with soldado the ball comes straight back in your half
whoever thinks we played better second half doesn't understand football. soon as soldado came on the pitch he rendered the 3 around him much less effective. a) you need the ball to stay in the opponents half b) you need this even more under a Pochettino pressing system. Soldado ticks none of these boxes

BFS is that you?

Seriously though, if we're not very good at picking locks the answer is to get better at it, not use a battering ram instead.

In some matches a battering ram is the key to the lock though.

If you're up against skilful defenders that aren't as comfortable with physicality then a battering ram is ideal.

The idea is to have multiple methods of getting through the door. Not just a plan A.

I agree (although I think those occasions are rare) - for that very reason it's ridiculous to write off Soldado for not being the complete striker. How many in the world are?

I disagree about the occasions being rare. Having a target man type player somewhere in the attacking areas can be helpful in most matches.

Poch seems to want to play fairly direct, with a mixture of long-ish passes and playing it along the ground. At Southampton they used Lambert's physique to their advantage quite effectively and I think Ade might be preferred to Soldado just because of that.

There are many ways to Rome, but quite a few of the good and great teams around do mix it up quite a bit with a physical striker or forward. I think it makes the job of the defenders a lot harder and it might even give (smaller) creative passers and dribblers more space as the defenders have to be much more aware of the threat of the direct lofted pass (I chose pass on purpose here, not advocating hoofing).

Look at the way Dortmund used Lewandowski, how Bayern under Heynckes used Mandzukic, how even Arsenal now use Giroud, how Germany used Klose, how PSG uses Zlatan, City using Negredo/Dzeko and so on and so on I don't accept that the answer is just to "get better at picking the lock".

All that being said (and I could go on), I'm not saying that Soldado should be written off. The combination of two out of Soldado, Ade and Kane looks quite tasty and we also have the potential option of teaching Chadli how to utilize his physique for example. Soldado has proven himself very capable on the ball and is much more than just the poacher he is certainly capable of playing as. Although most of us envision a 4-2-3-1 type formation as our starting point this season Poch himself has spoken about not caring much about those numbers and being flexible.

Re: Official - Soldado

I think that goal tonight was exactly what he needed. It was difficult and he took it very well but did not have enough time to think about it too much. Hopefully he gets a bit of confidence from that and he goes on the kind of run that he has done in Spain before.

Re: Official - Soldado

great goal! strikers instinct.
not just the goal but the player's understanding.
i think we need to keep both lamela and soldado , they will come good together.
add kane to the mix, he has a continental footballing brain

Re: Official - Soldado

lamela's delivery was exquisite too. such an unforced delivery at an oblique angle and trajectory... so hard to defend against.

hope to see the partnership between these two blossom.

I hate to be negative, but this is what has been said each time he scored a goal last year.

Though if Lamela can provide service like that on a regular basis we might see a few more effective contributions from Soldado.

He hasn't had many goals from open play in competitive games to help his confidence. I am hoping that a reflect strike like that will get his mojo working.

Re: Official - Soldado

Was seriously underwhelmed last season but really hope he can find himself this time around. I'd like to see him, Kane, Eriksen and Lamela start on Sunday.

Re: Official - Soldado

His goal was instinctive so doesn't tell us much at all. We know he can do that but can he bury decent chances regularly in this league? i very much doubt it.

Re: Official - Soldado

It is a confidence thing, especially with strikers. Although he is relatively experienced it happens to all strikers that they loose confidence. I want to see MoPo manage this situation to get the best out of this player and playing him against QPR would be the right move IMO.

Re: Official - Soldado

AC milan linked with Soldado to replace Balotelli........however i think AC will go for Destro, Torres or even Remy instead
