Roberto Soldado

Re: Official - Soldado

Precisely. I'd probably sell him to Atletico because for all some seem desperate for him to do well for us, the fact is he hasn't and we have two strikers who already have proven they can do well for us, even in less than ideal conditions, plus we are being linked with quite a few strikers, the latest being the kid from Standard Liege.

I feel pretty sure that Soldado's days are numbered at the club.

The more I think about it the more I think you're right.

Also worth mentioning that it seems like Valencia will find themselves with some money to spend this summer so there could be more clubs interested.

Re: Official - Soldado

I'm torn, really. On the one hand, I think if there's decent money on offer for him in the close season, it probably makes sense to move him on and reinvest; on the other, might he develop a new lease of life under Pochettino? It mightn't do any harm to give him another half a season to impress. He'd have to go some way to lose the Soldadud tag, though. See how he does in preseason, I suppose.

Re: Official - Soldado

Well on the official website they have a pre season video of some of our boys who are looking forward to it and Soldado, Verts and Paulinho are all on the video saying how its important to have a good pre season ready to start well next season.

Re: Official - Soldado

If he goes, Levy will get decent money and we can try someone else, no biggy and definitely not a big loss

Re: Official - Soldado

Hmm, interesting...

"Significantly, the asking price will not be as high as expected as Spurs paid Valencia only £13m up front, with the rest of the fee depending on various targets. But such was Soldado’s minimal impact this term, he is available for around the £13m fee spent on his initial transfer."

Agreed. I still rate Soldado as a good player, but I don't think it's any more likely that he does great next season than some other big striker signing.

Re: Official - Soldado

With the way Im anticpating (or maybe more hoping) we play next season I would have thought Soldado would have been ideal, in fact I'd prefer him up top ahead of Ade. You need to allow that season buffer with players sometimes, I've seen what this guy can do predominantly at Valencia but even here in patches - it just needs to be all pieced together. Second season, new style of play and more settled in a new city I've no doubt this guy would become the goal machine we wanted. Hope this is just predictable putting two and two together and getting 5 speculation....

Lambert has been excellent for Poch at Southampton and he's very different to Soldado.

One of the things we were desperately short on until Ade came in this season was height and strength up front.

I'm struggling to get from those to "Soldado would be a very good lone striker option under Pochettino next season".

From what I have seen (and Im not going to pretend I've seen anywhere near all their games) they pass the ball quickly and have plenty of movement. Thats all Soldado needs, to be fed quickly. Too often for him especially in the AVB days everything was so static. I must say he is more than capable of holding the ball up, he is strong and has good touch, Ive seen him prove that at Spurs aswell as Valencia - not so sure about his aerial game though. I'm not saying Ade wouldn't do well in Poch's system, maybe its more just a hunch but I do honestly feel Poch would get Soldado scoring again with his general attacking style of play....

I haven't seen anywhere near all their games either, but from what I've seen they've been good at mixing it up. And that's part of why it's worked so well. They've had the option to swing crosses in, means that full backs have to get close and thus gives the winger a chance to skip past them. They've had the option to go direct with long balls to Lambert, means that opposing midfielders have had to consider that option and potentially give away some space. They've had the option to play it in behind to players with a bit of pace. They've had the option to play through more technical and creative midfielders.

Take away the height and strength up front and some of those options disappear, that also makes the team more predictable and easier to play against. Which asks more from the players attempting the quick passing with plenty of movement. I'm not sure we'll reach the point where the target man is no longer needed all that quickly, even if we want to. And I'm not sure Poch wants to.

Re: Official - Soldado

I want him to stay and net a hat trick against the hammers so I can shove their Loldado comments down their throats.
