I was watching an interesting video on RDZ the other night, about his system. It ultimately lands on the point that the football is great but that the players are almost completely interchangeable. Individual style is in effect not required.

It made me think that actually this squad, with its heavy complement of box to box 6-8s could be quite good for him. He just needs the players to plug and play, understand rhythm and tempo, understand where the third man needs to be, and go from there.

I would have thought Romeo and VDV would be big winners. I’m not sure who in our squad is a loser really, I think RDZ loses by not having anyone that can play on the right wing. Potentially RKM, Spence or Porro I guess, in a specialised system it could work.

How many managers last more than two seasons these days?

He is what he is, we know that. His football philosophy and style are what we say we want to see on the pitch. He has PL experience and a good track record of developing young players. He will light the fire under this squad which the majority of us believe is what is needed.

Since when have we, our most other teams in professional football for that matter, had a long term vision which they have successfully stuck with? Sure there are a few, Brighton for example, but they are the minority and even that doesn’t guarantee success.

Let’s get back to playing attractive, entertaining football first before we start worrying about the 27/28 season and onwards.

Because most clubs are reactionary rather than proactive. Having a clear identity, plan and a structure that is dedicated to following that plan and identity, will almost always yield results. That also means that you can change the manager without destroying everything.

Whoever is our manager has a very difficult task to avoid us getting relegated, I believe too many of our players have let the managers, fans and club down and have been content to hide behind our managers. I've always thought that people don't make mistakes or error on purpose, we nearly all want to do our best but I find the performances of some players unfathomable over the past couple of seasons, some could have problems adapting to change, injury or form but at times there appeared to me that they lacked any self esteem or pride.
I've seen some poor teams in our shirts over the years but I've never felt this way before.

I certainly wouldn't want to belittle the subject matter, it's an important issue. I don't agree he justified Greenwood's actions by what he said, saying he 'paid a heavy price' is as fact - he did. At no point did he suggest what Greenwood did was ok, but spoke of his personal experience of the guy which is fair enough when he was undoubtedly constantly asked about the player. It's a difficult position for a manager to be in - What would you expect halo wearing Poch to say? That Greenwood is a disgusting human being? I think he like most managers would have said something similar, Getafe's manager wasn't any different.

Personally I haven't seen anything said from him regarding Greenwood to not want him at my club for non footballing reasons but that's just me - With sensitive issues there are bound to be plenty for and against these things. If we were talking about signing Greenwood that would be a different matter - like most I've heard the audio and it's horrific listening. I sincerely hope he is rehabilitating himself, but wouldn't want him doing it anywhere near our club.....

I would agree with you, there can be variance in how people choose to view and frame things, depending on who said it, and the affinities entwined.

There is the view that elite sport is about small marginal gains. Players playing just a fraction below their potential can have a large effect. Just not being fully engaged with the managers plan, concerns about their future, or personal problems at home can all have an influence.
