As Bishop said, if he’s not scoring or creating and generally not playing well then people are going to discuss his performances. I would have thought you of all people would have understood that given how much grief you’ve given Kane and Son whenever we’ve lost and they didn’t score. He was ok yesterday, no more no less. Still spends far too much time on the floor for such a big guy. I’m happy for him to be given time but also wouldn’t be against us going into the market and signing another forward. In fact, I think it’s a necessity that we need to reinvest some of the Kane funds in a CF.

Firmino was never prolific but he was fairly important to how they played. Mane and Salah chipped in with more than enough goals to compensate for Firmino’s lack of goals but I always felt Firmino was replaceable for that reason.

3 players whose job it was to score. CF or forward is splitting hairs. They were playing 433 they have 3 players whose task it was to score and they scored many of them.

Footballs def changed to the point that out and out strikers are becoming rarer IMO. We have gone from 2 up top to 1 and in come cases team playing without and having 3 interchangable attacking MFs and doing ok with it. Even Arsenal who took Jesus who was a wide FW at City managed without him for much of the campaign playing that way, to an extent. Havertz is not a CF IMO...

Thats just an observation BTW, not saying its an excuse for us not to have a recognised CF

There’s no doubt the game has changed and centre forwards of the Shearer ilk aren’t as common, not saying he wasn’t a great player but you need to have a more complete game. Having said that, I find some of the comments strange in this thread (from one poster in particular) that we should be content with a forward who plays down the middle who only chips in with 8-10 goals a season. I also worry that Richarlison as well as not being prolific isn’t overly creative either. We’ve got two very winnable games coming up so hopefully he can get off the mark and go on a run of scoring goals. I’d definitely go into the market and sign another forward though.

They are cult like I do agree with that. However your hatred of them is totally irrational and ironically similarly cultish, there’s no semblance of objectivity in your posts about them. I have a deep-rooted dislike of Arsenal but I can admit when they have great players and great teams as much as it pains me to.

Im more happy to wait and see given that he is replacing the best to ever do it than being convinced he is going to. Like I said yesterday this is effectively his now his 2nd game for Spurs, so I am willing to be more patient than say those that judge on last season which was a disaster for all. There were times yesterday TBF to Richy where Son for example could have played him in space and chose to keep dummying without shooting, looked to my untrained eye that was what he was alluding to when he went off and moaned on the bench. From that point the front three are learning about each other which is also a factor

I am also not against the idea that he develops to the left as at Everton which was undoubtedly his best role in the PL so far.

Like you I think we should be creating a competition in CF role, everyone should have someone down their neck and not being comfy.

I suppose like you say the next few games will show

He's played an almighty two games consecutively up front, in a new system and away to Brentford and home to Man U is far from the ideal games you would want to have first off.

It's all about fine margins here, he scored a cracker of a goal in the league last season that was ruled out by tight offside call. When we hit the post in the first half yesterday, he was the quickest of anyone to react and his foot was centimetres away from connecting with the ball and putting it into the net.

I liked how he improved as the game went on, I think it would take time for any striker to come in and adjust to this setup. He just needs to get one or two of these fine lines going his way and the goals will come. I still think he will come good and whilst agree either the young Argentine/Scarlett or a new young striker needs to come in and provide the competition, I am happy to see us persevere with him and give him a fair run of games....

Ha! He is clearly a decent player, as evidenced by his Prem record and also being a Brasil regular. Only time (and Ange) will tell if he is our main man up front.
 
He is one of the few Brazilians I have seen, who has no first touch. The other was another former World Cup winner we signed, hhhmmm. Loook at the guy's record, he is no goal scorer. He is NOT good enough for where we want to be.
