I am not sure why Trump thought the Ukrainians would capitulate. Three years of fending off the Russians is pretty clear evidence of their resilience.

But I hope they can put this behind them and find another way forward.

I'd send Usyk in for the next round of negotiations.

Americans still view Russia as the enemy.

Trump has no concept of the sacrifice soldiers make. Didn't he say the WWII cemetery in France was full of suckers and losers? His narcissism runs so deep and is so engrained that any action that does not benefit him directly is incomprehensible to him.

Tonight was a setup to get Zelensky to kneel and kiss the ring. They knew he would not. In the end, it only showed Trump and Vance's moral vacuity on full display.

Europe needs to increase spending asap.
Sounds like a solution here?

Although I've never understood why the minerals is a good bargaining chip - surely it just makes them a target of war? Part of Putin's invasion was always because he thinks The Ukraine is part of Russia; part of it is a recognition of it's abundance of natural resources.

There's already about 100 billion of further support that has been pledged from Europe. Get that into play and it's enough to ensure that Ukraine survive for another year. After that Russia is fudged. They are already relying on soviet era tanks and the stockpile of them will run our before the end of the year. Their economy is starting to hit trouble and another year of this spending on defence will cripple them.

Europe should be looking to do some deal with Ukraine to pump further weapons in, plus to help rebuild Ukraine in exchange for some of the natural resources.

Russia are barely making headway against Ukraine after three years of war. Poland or Germany alone would defeat Russia at this point. The issue is it becomes a loss of life for those countries and not just an economic hit.
