I'm beginning to think that even so called 'important people' are human beings at the end of the day, so are equally capable of going bat brick cuckoo if sponging up SM all day.

Trump still believes this is business and not life and death. His bully approach doesn't work quite the same when the other parties won't tolerate every batbrick crazy thing he does or says because there's a lot of money in it for them. Seems a pretty poor way of doing any kind of business where you make all kind of outrageous claims before your lawyers and accountants get to work on the actual deal making.

Problem with regular, career politicians is that they're always looking to smooth things over and plain self preservation. The EU should just tell him to fudge off. Just end NATO and do this EU army instead. As long as they continue making deals with him, he thinks he's winning.

To be honest, I thought Starmer was doing the right thing for the country yesterday in his meeting with Trump. As of this evening, I’m all for us stopping dealing with the US administration to as large an extent as we can. And as for a state visit, they can f uck right off.

If we don’t stand up to this sort of bullying and oligarchy, what is our role now as a nation?

The last two days were a valiant, and seemingly successful, attempt to bridge the gap. Suck up just enough (however cringe) to keep the relationship and not have to choose between Europe and the US.

I don't think he has a choice now. He has to distance this country from Trump.
He can do that by condemning Trump's administration and not condemning the US itself - although it will be very tough.

Anything less, and I think Labour will push him.

On the plus side - we might get Trump Vs Rayner! That would be awesome.

Europe needs to increase spending asap.
Sounds like a solution here?

Although I've never understood why the minerals is a good bargaining chip - surely it just makes them a target of war? Part of Putin's invasion was always because he thinks The Ukraine is part of Russia; part of it is a recognition of it's abundance of natural resources.
 
Could the UK / France / Germany / Poland sign a pact to help Ukraine in return for some of the $500billion that Trump has just let slip through his fingers?

Because he is ignorant of them, their struggle, the struggles generally, the useless deaths of poor and disenfranchised young men on both sides of this horrorshow, and the physical toll of being in such a war. He thinks everything is a reality TV show that can be ended by a deal. I know you know but I wantedto write it...these are exceptionally dangerous times and he is making enemies of anyone who does not parrot'The Message'...I think the Bezos open letter re; WaPo the other day is another very, very scary sign of where they're at...
