Ange would have everyone eating out the palms of his hands if he had us performing - the fact the fanbase is still behind him for the most part despite being in 16th in February is a testament that - don't be mistaken in thinking it's anything other than results as to why people are on his case. On the flip side Poch would not have united anything if he didn't get us performing.

Personally I think the united club stuff is over stated - people just put their distrust of the board to one side when we are performing on the pitch, that's all it is and you can see that's the case as whenever we hit a rough patch the knives come out straight away.

Poch very, very clearly stated an identity. He spoke about the club in glowing hyperbolic terms. Behind the scenes he was warm and inclusive of all (I heard that from several direct sources over time). I agree, winning helped, but getting the buy in helped us start winning; and not ever a spell of chronic injuries. I think (personally) it is undeniable that Poch was far easier to warm to than Ange.

I think the ONLY reason so many remain nervously OK with him in charge is because of the injuries. Speaking for myself that is the sole reason. No supporter in their right mind finds where we are acceptable.

I agree with what you say re: Ange/results, but I don' t think is dry, wry and frankly older personality helps him. He is somewhat of a lone wolf (does not help), liked by people and seen as decent, but not loved as a 'warm character'. I think it costs him, and that is partially just because of who he is (mate!).

Yes, knives come out during bad runs, that's for sure. Contexts dissolve like salt in hot coffee and the beverage tastes nasty. It is sad and human.

Ange was adored at his previous clubs and the national team, there's no reason to think it would have been any different here. There's an argument to be made that a lot of spurs fans bought in to him early doors because of his romanticising of the game and the way he spoke in general.

I understand we are in a period of disagreement, but would you not agree that Ange and Poch are different personalities?

I'm sorry but this is revisionism, Ndombele wasn't a mercenary. Yes the move did not work, absolutely a failure but he didn't joing purely due to money. He joined because at the time we were an exciting prospect and one of the up and coming teams on the verge breaking through to the top table. That it didn't happen is well documented but let's not change history to suit a new narrative.
Ndombele had an attitude issue, which multiple managers established they could not work with. He joined us in part because we were on an upward trajectory but also because we offered him the biggest salary we had to anyone bar Harry Kane. Which for a player with such a low bar in terms of personal fitness and attitude, means I would attribute his reasons for joining being at least 50% driven by cash.

I'm not typically someone with a narrative oriented perspective Bish, just say it as I see it. Ndombele took us for a lot of money in exchange for a handful of goals and one audacious over the shoulder flicked goal.

Of course, but what does that matter in regards to what is being discussed here?
You are arguing that the unification of a club is all about results. Essentially you suggested that Poch unified the club because he got results. I fervently disagree. With regards to Ange, I have seen several comments on his personality which appear to have added to people's perceptions of him. All part of what is being discussed here.

Yeah we're seeing some comments on some of Ange's personality traits that have come to the fore since the poor results and lack of progress has put him under pressure. That doesn't happen if there were good results and progress on the pitch.

We got a taste of what buy in looks like for the first 3 months of last season. Ange's name sung non-stop, Robbie Williams becoming a Spurs fan. The club was one again and it happened very quickly. No doubt all it takes to bring that back is to start winning again.

By these standards every player is a mercenary and I don't have an issue with that view if that is where we set the bar because no player joining us is ever doing so for free and taking a pay cut, the vast majority are doing so whilst receiving a significant pay rise. So cool we can call them ll mercenaries.

Tbh I think the fitness thing was overstated, he had a languid style and was by no means an energizer bunny but his running and actual defensive stats were no worse than his peers at the time. I remember debunking it on here. People used to complain about the side of his bum, he's West African FFS of course he's going to have a big arse.

Presumably Rashford's wages going to Villa, means Utd can get Tel. No surprise.
Let's hope he isn't the man to turn Utd's fortunes around. We play them rather soon.......................................................................................................................................................

Debut goal no doubt, which i could live with providing we bang 3 or 4 in their net to win

I would get on the phone to Tel. Get him to watch the Brentford game back, and say: could you score in this game and do better than Richarlison? If so we'll play you. Then sell Richi to Saudi.

I’d be stunned if Villa can afford his wages
