It falls apart because we didn't sign the player. Is it possible that the thought was this deal was done? Special relationships and all? To your point, perhaps keep the victory lines for post-deal (as in Kinsky).
Maybe
Again mate, we don’t know
It’s why I don’t really buy into it
I’m sure we wants him and made an offer
That’s as much as I can say with a modicum of confidence
Oh, and he ain’t signing
That we can say with confidence

He done it by winning games and having us at the top end of the table consistently.

I think he was also a much warmer, 'lemons and passion' operator. Ange is certainly not as 'warm'...Poch? I'd have walked on those bloody pre-CL Final coals for him!!!!! he had me sold from the first 6 months.

Ange would have everyone eating out the palms of his hands if he had us performing - the fact the fanbase is still behind him for the most part despite being in 16th in February is a testament that - don't be mistaken in thinking it's anything other than results as to why people are on his case. On the flip side Poch would not have united anything if he didn't get us performing.

Personally I think the united club stuff is over stated - people just put their distrust of the board to one side when we are performing on the pitch, that's all it is and you can see that's the case as whenever we hit a rough patch the knives come out straight away.

I think the only point I'm proving is that even venturing an opinion on him causes pretty distinct differences of opinion.

There are a few posters who tend to be pretty exercised by Levy. Rent free n all that. Everything is a conspiracy. Everything is a complaint. And half of what they post is Leeeevied. Have you been Tangod too.

He did it early though
We were not in a great place before hand and despite some not great results he had the fans there behind me

Not really how I remember it, i think he was being questioned (as all new managers are) right up until the second season. There were of course supporters who bought in to him before then but it wasn't until second season when it became widespread.

Progress on the pitch is what gets the support of the fanbase and the idea of everyone pulling in the same direction- Poch gave us that year on year for many seasons then as soon as we started to regress on the pitch the doubts and fractures came back to the surface - there was no united club at that point, some wanted Poch out some wanted the board out - if it was truly united we would not have been so quick to look to apportion blame.

Maybe I’m over simplifying it

Emotional needs not being met....that's all it is.

Waxes and wanes.

A bogeyman always helps.

I get tired of explaining how I feel about Levy, but I have been very, very clear that I hold a dialectic view. I wrote a LONG post about it. Here's short version for you.

Plus side - single greatest chairman in global sports for what he has done commercially with Tottenham. Undeniable. This great business has put us in a place to compete which (frankly) is miraculous. There is nor a better chairman/CEO in that regard, and Daniel's absolute excellence in the world of business is both undeniable and instinctual to him.

Minus side - the pitch/the game/the players do not operate like a business. They all involve high degrees of instinct and emotion (along with all the data). Football clubs are bizarre businesses as they are all about emotional attatchments; if we supported Spurs like we purchase products or services, any sane one of us would've bailed a long time ago.

In order for us to win on the pitch, Daniel has to accept that sometimes 'business' does not apply. I personally believe he tries to get there but that it is not in his DNA.

I could go on, but I wanted to clarify this 'black and white' scenario you painted.
In Daniel Levy's case, the dialectic is most certainly alive...Levy is a great businessman and chairman and he has always had trouble understanding that the work on the pitch is not linear-business driven.

Again, I personally have never, ever viewed him as machiavellian, That would be like saying Gary Doherty purposely never player like Pele. People are who they are, and hopefully, they're doing the best they can.
