Politics, politics, politics

The opinions I've heard certainly aren't professional ones - these are just those of residents in that area.

Obviously the opinion is that the UK govt doesn't give a fudge, that's expected in those parts. What they feel is that in not being more flexible, the EU is giving the UK govt every reason to put up a border.
My last word on it but the EU have given the only concession in the negotiations to NOT put up a border actually, and it is a massive one, and that is to allow the whole UK to stay in the CU. You are right the UK gov don't really give a fudge about NI. If it wasn't for May/DUP putting their own or party interests to the top of their prioity list then the backstop/order issue would be a check mark on a completed todo list.

edit: turns out it wasn;t my last word on it.:)

It's not a concession - it's a trap. Bound into the CU permanently is a nightmare scenario. It's what the EU have wanted all along. To neuter us and lock us away in a corner.

The NI only backstop is infinitely preferable for the whole of GB and NI, bar a dozen DUP MPs. We'd all be in such a better place now if May hadn't screwed up by calling the 2017 GE.

How is wanting to beat the Tories making Labour "a single issue party"? Err how are they ever going to win power if they don't? The anti Labour pile on continues, meanwhile back in Tory land real mayhem and dysfunction... but that's all okay. It will be interesting to see the reaction if as reported, some Tories split.

Because politics (for all but you, it seems) isn't and shouldn't be tribal. If the current government put out a set of policies that aligned with Labour's ideals then Labour should support those policies.

The end result is not to gain power but to implement the change one wants to see. Power is a vehicle by which that change can be forced, but not the only one.

... who is promoting a political stance that has been unelectable in this country for over two generations now.

So if Corbyn is as impotent as you claim, why do you denounce him with such ferocity? Clearly there is a serious disconnect here. You are not alone, when he gained the leadership some described him as a joke. If he was a joke why the visceral hatred?

Because he talks crap, he has links to some pretty shady people and he followed Ed Miliband which was like Barry following Paul Chuckle

I agree that it is a stupid idea but it is a trap of the UK's own making. The UK government asked for this and it was conceeded after much lobbying from the Irish government with the EU. This is not like the Spanish inquisistion jumping out from behind a bush and foisting this on the UK.

I 100% agree that the NI only backstop is a far far better solution. It is the only thing that makes any practical sense.

There is no credible opposition.
That makes this country very vulnerable.

Brexit.
