Politics, politics, politics

The EU can't be seen to reward us for voting leave or else it might encourage other countries to do like wise.

I think that the best that we can expect is a rehashing of the deal Cameron struck with some slight tinkering to make it look like we got further concessions on freedom of movement.

The freedom to work that Dan Hannan has spoken about since the referendum is not a million miles away from the benefit limits that Cameron got. That re-badged and some controls on movement from new member states is my guess at where we'll end up on immigration with us retaining EEA access and contributing the same to the budget.
That's the thing though - the EU doesn't believe that any of the legislation is a bad thing. In the Eurocrat bubble, it protects us all and makes the world a better place, full of rainbows and unicorns.

In terms of freedom of movement, we should keep it. If we don't want people turning up to claim benefits then we should just lower benefits until the differential is small enough to make it not worth the effort.

The countries told the Commission last week that they would be negotiating with us directly.

That's very good news indeed. Whether we agree with them or not, at least the decisions will be made through some kind of reason and sense.

The Spiegel article on Brexit a couple of pages back is worth reading. The Germans' seem to think that she is willing to give us as much time as we want and has driven moves for the countries to lead on negotiations.

Is this a disconnect or what? Do right wingers actually understand what conflict of interest is? It's bad enough that Farage ran as an MEP, To me that's like an anarchist being in cabinet, but how does this hypocrite justify staying on the EU teat? He says his work is done, but by GHod he is not resigning from that nice little earner. I'm dumbfounded by the sheer arrogance of this, but even more so by the fact that his boosters have not raised a single note of discontent.

So nasty Nigel "wants his life back" my heart bleeds. How about giving back the lives of people living in fear as a result of his hateful, anti immigration rhetoric? People like my elderly mother and father in law abused and told to "leave" while on a bus home last week. How about those EU workers in this country who suddenly feel unwelcome and face an uncertain future. I have no problem at all with voting leave on the basis of bringing back sovereignty, but Farage, the Sun and the Mail have distorted immigration to serve their own ends. But just as the going gets tough who ducks off? Nigel with his fat EU pension. Letting down many innocent people who are now going to be further shafted by austerity. I liken Farage to those imbecilic preachers uttering their hatred in Finsbury park. It's just he wears a suit and chooses his words more carefully. Where is the justice in this world where Jo Cox's children grow up without a mother who campaigned for tolerance and peace whilst the poster boy of division and hatred gets to sail off into the sunset "his work done." With every passing day I really despair of our political classes.

A different topic to what we have been going round in circles on but i found this to be worth reading. Not saying its truthful but non the less worth a read.

Personally speaking i do believe that Blair lied and took us into a illegal war and deserves to be bought to book for doing so. I am hoping that the Chilcot enquiry is not a white wash and he is held to book.

And salmond isn't using this to detract from the fact that despite everything going their way the SNP are even further away from independence? The mans a buffoon.

That's interesting because on one of the Sunday Political discussion shows they mentioned talk of rumours that Corbyn was trying to hang onto his position long enough for the Chilcott report to come out with a certain verdict so that he could get to stand up in the Commons and call for Blair to be tried as a War Criminal. He would then step down from this as he'd have finally gotten "his day in the gallery" so to speak.
Seems plausible...

But then again, did anyone see the Corbyn video calling for "Unit in the ranks"? I found it very very creepy, like a Stalinist/1984 broadcast, esp with the subtitles (why the need for subtitles?? Ok, i know that the facility is there to make sure those hard of hearing can get the message too...but when shown on the TV it looked very odd...i don't remember similar being done with Lib Dem or Tory vids that were shown on the news...perhaps they wanted to make sure nobody coukd be accused of dubbing it in a dodgy way?? Anyway, VERY odd)

It does seem very plausible. The way practically the whole parliamentary party has turned on him has been pretty vicious and there are not many people who would cling on to power under those circumstances without good reason.

Regarding calling for Blair to be tried for War Crimes - I read in the paper at the weekend that this would not happen (or at least not by the International Criminal Court (ICC) under the auspices of which such trials are usually held). Apparently the ICC does not have within its jurisdiction calling to trial those who make the decision to go to war, rather it can only try those accused of war crimes on the ground during the war. So our soldiers could be tried for atrocities committed (not that I am suggesting they acted beyond their orders) but not the political leaders at the time who took us into war.
I may have misinterpreted, but I think that is what I read.

Interesting piece and definitely something out Blair's dark arts.

I wonder if there could be a reason for that......
