Norwich City move for Twente midfielder Leroy Fer and close in on Blackburn's Martin Olsson

Naaa Pal, he's about as old as Defoe and on bigger £'s, you don't transfer in the £15-20M bracket 3x on low wages... Would rather have an absloute punt on a 20 year old in the £5-8M bracket and stick him on the bench (like that Rebic). With good contacts surely that should be bread and butter for Baldini. The youngster might still fail, but the upside potential is much higher IMO as Bent stunk the place out quite literally due to his vibe IMO, if he had absolutely tried here he would be well looked upon, but he hid when we were up against it, running obviously blocked channels etc. He never had a mentality big enough for us. Though Harry ended him with his Sandra comment of course.

That's why I said if... he might trade in some wages for a shot at re-establishing his career. Our first choice striker is unlikely to currently be playing in England, and thus we may end up with Adebayor and an unsettled new striker. If we need a goalscorer to throw on, Bent would be a good option IMO. A far better finisher than Defoe, he would probably be more effective in his elder years too.

Even if we sign an English-based striker like Benteke, goals from the bench are vital in nicking wins. I think this limited role would suit Bent far more than that of first choice striker, in which he was an epic failure last time around. He is also more suited to this role than either of our current strikers and many of the ones we have been linked to. Under a different manager with a different atmosphere about the team and a more restricted role he might actually flourish. Could easily reach 10 goals in all competitions as third choice/sub.

Darren Bent is not a top class player and we should only look at him if we can do a very good deal, but he would certainly be worth a punt and could contribute more to the team next season than Ante Rebic etc. who might be utter brick/take a couple of years to become decent.

VI reporting Toby Alderweireld will travel to Norwich tomorrow for talks with the club

gathering speed

good player. Can see us going in big for him next summer after he has a top year at Norwich

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants striker Gonzalo Higuain to stay at the club after claiming there have been "no offers" from Arsenal or any other club for the Argentine international.

The 25-year-old Higuain has been linked with a move to Arsenal throughout the summer, after the player admitted he wanted to leave the Spanish capital.

But Perez poured cold water on the speculation, hoping to keep Higuain for the use of new Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti.

"We don't want Higuain to leave," Perez told Univision.

"What's more no-one from Arsenal has come to us and made us any offers at all for him. There are no offers on the table."

Meanwhile, Perez confirmed the club are looking to sign cover for Xabi Alonso with rumours suggesting Madrid will sign Under-21 Spanish midfielder Asier Illarramendi.

"We are concerned about the state of Xabi Alonso," Perez said. "Defensive midfield is a very important position and we should be looking to strengthen there."

Good thing Sandro is injured then, so we don't have to watch Zidane explain how wonderfull he is, and that he "deserves" Champions league....

That's the problem when you're "done" establishing yourself as a pl team, and want to push on. Alot of players who were good in the championship and have done a "job" in the pl, simply aren't good enough if you want to push on. Seems to me like they are doing some smart buisness. I'm not sure how good all these players are, but they are not players I'd expect going to a club like Norwich.

Napoli have opened the bidding for reported Tottenham target Jackson Martinez, sources in Italy have claimed.

The free-scoring Colombian, who netted 26 times in 30 appearances for Porto last term, has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane, with Andre Villas-Boas keen to bolster his forward line.

The Portuguese champions, however, are desperate to hang on to the 26-year-old, who they paid £9m for this time last year.

But now Napoli have tested Porto's resolve with a bid of around £25m. The Serie A side are set to sell Edinson Cavani this summer and will have cash to spend on his replacement, with Martinez high on Rafa Benitez's wish list.

But it has been suggested that Martinez's current contract, which expires in 2016, contains a minimum fee release clause set at £35m - and Porto won't sell for any less.

They are also currently in talks about a new deal for the striker, which is likely to double that fee. Napoli are also trying to seal a deal for Manchester United target Erik Lamela, as talkSPORT recently revealed.

Fer, Toivonen, Redmond , Wolfswinkel, and Alderweireld.....It's like Norwich want to replace their whole first x1.

They barely picked up any points second half of last season, they've run out of steam and an overhaul is needed. These are promising players, but none of them would be more than squaddies at top 6 clubs.

Daily Mail: Barcelona have launched a £30million bid for Brazil defender David Luiz – but Chelsea will refuse to sell him at that price.

Sky Sports: Saudi Sportswashing Machine boss Alan Pardew has confirmed he wants to sign strikers Darren Bent and Loic Remy

Guardian: Charlie Austin fails Hull medical.

Daily Star: Gareth Barry has opened talks with Arsenal over a possible £4million move to the Emirates.

Alberweield would start for every Prem side except Man Utd and City (I don't think he's better then Rafael or Zaba)

Don't agree, I think he's very overrated. Not saying he's brick, but not good enough if you're chasing a top 4 spot.

Alderweireld could have competed with Walker but even better he would have been an excellent partner for Vertonghen. Top defender

Napoli have announced that Jose Maria Callejon will undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of his move from Real Madrid.
