OMT: ***TOTTENHAM v sunderland***

Footballers probably train 6 hours a day, 4/5 days a week and a match on the Sat, they get plenty of time to rest, I will not slate them for a sensible night out when they have said there was no training the next day, young and super fit they can handle that.

6 hours? Try 2. Those that wish to can then choose to eat lunch at the training ground and do some individual work in the gym or practice free kicks or whatever they feel like, most likely playstation in the lounge area before they're due at the golf course.

I think asa long as the lads were not getting smashed, and they are not a clique (sp) then its part of team bonding and no harm. The team does seem to be more together now? Off topic but caused a smile - Talksport which used to be good is in difficulty. Or rather its causing a problem for its holding company. Shame if it went tits up;)

UTV Media, the owner of TalkSport and the Northern Ireland ITV franchise, has said its first-quarter revenue fell 5%, hurt mainly by a weak performance at its British radio business.

The trading challenges experienced from January to March are expected to continue in the second quarter, with year-on-year revenue declines due to adverse market conditions and the absence of a major sporting event in the first half of 2013, UTV said.

Revenue at the company's core Radio GB business, which includes TalkSport, fell 7% to £12.2m in the three months to the end of March.

Revenue from TalkSport decreased 10%

That effing Durham winds me up!

Oh brick... MORE ads then!

That they have to 'socialise' by doing shots in a VIP celebrity hangout 5 days before the last game of the season.
You wont find the non English players in the squad doing this. Can they not go a few days without drinking?

Agree 100%. As for the 'they're young men with piles of cash in London' stuff, sorry, it is possible to go out with friends and not have 'jerobomes' of alcohol. Go and have a nice leisurely dinner with a few glasses of quality wine? Or just enjoy a quality meal. pay to keep the restaurant open late. Whenever you put yourself in the same old nightclub scene you're inviting potential trouble...

Cheers for posting Denmark :) Another good interview from AVB. I think he's showing a lot of integrity, when asked about other teams with little other than pride to play for he talked about similar situations for himself at Porto and Academica, identifying with their situation, not just going off on some tangent.

Thought it was funny when he was asked about Chelsea next season.

Journo: So you think Chelsea will be the league favourites next season?
AVB: Yes.
Journo: With Mourinho as their new manager?
AVB: *Sly smile* With... a new manager...

(paraphrased, couldn't be bothered typing it out entirely accurately)

Nonsense.

They are massive earners, and as such socialise in expensive places. Because they can.

Would you expect them to frequent the local boozer where some tinkled up meat-head would be offering them out every few minutes because of who they are?

Get over this, Modric. It's a non-story.

Fixed!

So many great options for late-night socializing that don't involve the tack-factor/potential trouble...

Totally disagree.

As stated elsewhere, there is no proof whatsoever that THEY were drinking. The tinkle-poor "story" states that jeraboams of vodka were delivered to THEIR table, where several other non-footballers were sitting.
No reports of them being tinkled up or anything.

And these are young blokes in their 20s. Think back..........how often did YOU go out for a nice quiet meal and a couple of glasses of wine at that age? Be honest........

They had the next day off training and probably only had a couple of drinks, good luck to them they will be relaxed and ready to tear into the Mackams, they are footballers not priests, lol.

Reading between the lines, AVB is clearly massively frustrated over the way we've conducted our transfer dealings. He made several references to it.

Shamelessly borrowed from someone else, but an interesting observation...

<<OK here's the omen. After the first game of the season (us losing to Saudi Sportswashing Machine) we were 16th and Saudi Sportswashing Machine were 4th. The Arse were 2 points behind Saudi Sportswashing Machine. If we beat Sunderland, Saudi Sportswashing Machine draw with the Arse, and Villa Fulham and Southampton win, we will be 4th, Saudi Sportswashing Machine will be 16th and the Arse will be 2 points behind us. It's a done deal!!!>>

Honestly? I found myself out a lot but I would be sure not to get hammered if I had an assignment due...there again, I was always an oddball in my peer group!

Your point is taken on a general basis, I just wish they could perhaps NOT do it a few days before a massively important match.

How do you know they got hammered?

Quiet night out with mates, couple of drinks, flirt with the waitress. Then some taco comes over and tries to start something.

Wasn't referring to them at all mate, I was answering Crawley's question with regards to my behaviour at that age. You're right to point out the potential of inference there, and apologies to those players because I was absolutely not inferring that whatsoever.I just don't think nightclubbing in any degree at this point in the season is, err, great preparation.
