OMT: ***TOTTENHAM v sunderland***

At this level, the margins are so small. The Sunderland players are also top fit athletes, and if they have prepared for the game more professionally, that could make the difference.

Or the fact that the players have been able to blow off some steam before what is a high pressure match might allow them to feel far more relaxed and play with more confidence. Which could also make the difference.

if Saudi Sportswashing Machine score first on Sunday, i think they'll get at least a point. If Arse score first i can see the Saudi Sportswashing Machine players giving up and the floodgates opening.

That Toon team on paper is good enough to beat anybody, I have a feeling it will be a high scoring game, fingers crossed thats all we can do.

As a Spurs fans of over 20 years I can only see things going against us on Sunday. Gotta be proved wrong once though surely????

5 days should be enough to recover, and we have no idea how much they were actually drinking.

I'm in general sceptical to the British* attitude towards alcohol in football, although I think signs are good that clubs and players are moving in the right direction. We don't really have a basis for saying that they were out of line in this occation though. If they were outright drunk then yes, as it would most likely impact important training sessions on Wednesday and today. If they had a moderate amount of alcohol I don't think they were out of line.

*Not an exclusively British attitudte of course

When you are as fit as they are a blow out mid week will not harm them, their fitness levels are amazing.

Sure they might get away with it but it illustrates their attitude.
There's a load of players at the club who have been here for years and have consistently underachieved.
They have no real ambition to win anything and are at Tottenham primarily because they like London and the Footballer lifestyle.

What attitude? That they like to use their own spare time to socialise with their friends?

Serious question, how many people don't like London and the footballer lifestyle? Out of those, how many have the means to live a footballer lifestyle?

Love how everyone has their own ball. No need for tackling or arguing. /stupid women joke

That they have to 'socialise' by doing shots in a VIP celebrity hangout 5 days before the last game of the season.
You wont find the non English players in the squad doing this. Can they not go a few days without drinking?

I agree; utterly ridiculous. Even if none of the players were drinking and their friends were drinking the jeraboams of vodka which were being ordered, would have been better than they would have been getting some rest rather than heading home in the early hours of the morning

Footballers probably train 6 hours a day, 4/5 days a week and a match on the Sat, they get plenty of time to rest, I will not slate them for a sensible night out when they have said there was no training the next day, young and super fit they can handle that.

Andre: "We have to do our job and independent of results elsewhere, we want the achievement of reaching 72 points. That’s important for us. The game against Stoke was good for us. It took patience and intelligence to win and it will be the same against Sunderland. The ingredients of the game are dangerous. We have to be aware. We have to focus on our task. What I'd love to see is a great environment again at White Hart Lane, like we’ve seen recently. That is a massive help to the team. We’ll focus on our job and see what happens after that. We’re aware of what we have to do. The determination is there."

Absolutely. Would I like them to concentrate on the team? Sure. But they're young men with enormous amounts of cash living in London: what do you expect them to do in their spare time, read the Tottenham Opus?

As long as it doesn't affect their performances, I'm fine with whatever they choose to do in their spare time. And I think I trust Andre to rein them in if he feels they're going over the line.

I think asa long as the lads were not getting smashed, and they are not a clique (sp) then its part of team bonding and no harm. The team does seem to be more together now? Off topic but caused a smile - Talksport which used to be good is in difficulty. Or rather its causing a problem for its holding company. Shame if it went tits up;)
http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2013/may/16/talksport-owner-utv-media
UTV Media, the owner of TalkSport and the Northern Ireland ITV franchise, has said its first-quarter revenue fell 5%, hurt mainly by a weak performance at its British radio business.

The trading challenges experienced from January to March are expected to continue in the second quarter, with year-on-year revenue declines due to adverse market conditions and the absence of a major sporting event in the first half of 2013, UTV said.

Revenue at the company's core Radio GB business, which includes TalkSport, fell 7% to £12.2m in the three months to the end of March.

Revenue from TalkSport decreased 10%

That effing Durham winds me up!

+1

If they were getting completely gazebo'ed than it could be a different story, however there is nothing to suggest they were.

Once again Northumberland Park is shut so only WHL mainline station will be open
