OMT *** Tottenham Hotspur vs AFC Richmond/Crystal Palace - Sunday 27th October 14:00 ***

I don't think playing the way we do with the messages the manager puts out a mentality needed.

It's empowering to say I take responsibility if the players make mistakes, but at the same time you then take any agency away from the players so any failings are purely a management issue. We only play one way. Under the cosh if a player is told to go short no matter the circumstances and keeps losing the ball, you can't dig out, sub or reprimand the player as he's doing what you want.

Football games don't work in isolation, you have to adapt on the pitch to what's happening and as a club we don't seem to. It's like any sort of variation by the opposition is some form of trickery.

I don’t agree
But then that’s fine
The philosophy imo doesn’t matter if the players don’t work
And I don’t mean technically I mean pure simiple effort
Today was lazy
Brighton second half .. lazy
That’s her acceptable at any level
Will be interesting to see the running stats as I imagine they will be fairly high from Spurs

Doesn't matter how much you run, you can't cover gaps everywhere in the back line

"It wasn't about our football"

Yes, Ange, it was. Not wholly. But if your football doesn't beat the opposition, you have to change it to beat them. That's how tactics work - they are a two way street.

It's great when it works. brick when it doesn't.
That's not professional management.

If you have a closer look at Palace, you'll see that their left sided trio of Guehi, Mitchell, Eze is incredibly powerful. The 3 of them just owned us with the support of the midfield tucked inside them. Mitchell, for me, is one of the most underrated players in the entire division. Just like the last few times he's played against us, he was all over us like a rash. lol - not good enough for Southgate though.

We might also be seeing that Ange's system just doesn't work against 3-5-2 / 3-4-3 teams. They negated our own wide play, stopping most sources of assists and they exploited those gaps we leave with the full-backs tucked in.

It's funny I told you this in the summer and last season but you wanted him on the left. ;)
I’d like him gone because technically he isn’t up to the way we wanna okay
But that’s never happening and he is like better left than central

It’s why we needed sarr

No in 2024, he's definitely better in the centre than he is out wide. In the centre he scores and gets chances against the right kind of teams. Out on the left he looks like a pensioner and doesn't play well against ANYONE! (other than Trippier) :D

The philosophy isn’t why we’re spineless away form home
It’s a recurrent issue with spurs teams for a long time
It’s a mentality thing

Agree 100% and it's a vicious circle.

The more it happens, the more the next opposition think they can make it happen too. They are emboldened by our brick record. They know they can get a result if they bully and press us, cheered on by a home crowd. We are just too weak mentally and physically away from home.

It's a tough thing to turn around.

Weird because some people thought he was MOTM last weekend (I thought he was making bad decisions until Maddison went off)
Through the centre he only works against teams that attack or when we’re countering (like Everton and last week)

Before the game I watched a video from Ange titled "We're on another level compared to last season"

It was compelling stuff and I started to believe it because I wanted to believe it.

But today was all too familiar.

I could see after 30 seconds that we were in second gear and felt sure we were not truly 'at it'.
I think he might be correct and that we are indeed on another level compared to last season. Whether or not that level is above last season remains to be seen.

I agree......Wharton and Lerma/Hughes could focus on a side each and support the trio on their outside. Bissouma was just stretched like crazy.

A Poch 4-2-3-1 would have stood a better chance. A Conte 3-4-3 would have at least matched them up. Ange's system is just rolling the dice to hope that repetition, repetition, repetition works in these unfavourable conditions. No setup to the opposition. Just going with a plan A. That's why he has to be so accountable when we get these regular outcomes - Leciester 2nd half, Gooners, Brighton 2nd half and now Palace.

I've missed a fair bit of our games this season but it felt like today's game was the worst performance of the season.

It is
And Ange is trying
Problem is if the lazy fudgers don’t work he looks as dumb as anyone and gets the blame
Conte moaned about it
Mou moaned about it When he left
Poch has his gripes but took it on the chin

At least in the centre it occasionally works. On the left the man is finished. I'm also going to say I wouldn't be surprised to see Son gets games through the middle against at some point this season because Solanke as good as he's been in terms of holdup and link play he's not even getting scraps and Son is a little more able to turn scraps into chances.

A few people have said we'll finish 6th or 7th but i can't see that happening...

From this day a year ago we gave got 53 points from 37 games.... That is 12th or 13th place....

I read yesterday that Bournemouth have won more points than us since last October....

I am mightily fed up with such another dismal performance...

Go for the league cup and the Europa.... F...k the league, there are too many teams CONSISTENTLY better than us.

Son wouldn’t get the scraps because eh would be so far behind the play again
TBF we wouldn’t get the scraps because he wouldn’t engage the CBs

A start would be playing those that are up for the fight and dropping those that aren't e.g. replacing Madders with Sarr.
