OMT ** Tottenham Hotspur v Wolves ** 29 December 2024.

We are in such a mess that the most important thing now is giving senior players a rest and getting them fit for the league games.

I’m not coming at this from an angle of caring about their development right now.

It’s about points this season.

It's a catch 22 isn't it, if he takes out all the players who must be close to collapse and puts in kids then the chances of picking up points and still being in a job when the players return are pretty slim.

I don't think we've ever had so many injuries as we have had this season and the season before. So Ange is indeed either drastically unlucky on the injury front or is a contributing factor to that particular issue.

We've had plenty of seasons where we've managed European football and the league and managed a top 4/6 finish.

Our results were this way out 2nd half of last season with no Europe: our form from the middle part of last season:

I was referring to the 2003/4 season you mentioned in you're post, it really doesn't matter as the people who want change will always find some stat or theory to explain their position and ignore what they like. I don't think anyone is happy with our current situation but short of everyone being fit again I don't think making changes now will improve our position or be easy.

It is easy. Football is a simple game, complicated by fo....people that play "inverted fullbacks" and "hey, it doesn't matter that we keep losing, we are msking great progress in the xG"

There are registered outfield players who haven’t played a minute, Casanova, Hardy, King, Olusei, Ajayi and Williams-Barnett.

Reggie and Dorrington have only had a handful.

There was plenty of opportunity to use these players to give others a rest.

If Ange doesn’t trust them why have they been registered, why not keep Gil, PEH and Royal around for another season?

It’s a mess of his own making.
:D

Our results without an "injury crisis" don't paint a massively rosy picture. Our win and loss ratio and poor results (losing 2 goal lead to Brighton, losing at Palace, losing at home to Ipswich) interspaced with brilliant ones (3-0 at United, 4-1 v Villa) and that trend has kind of just continued through this *injury crisis* - we beat City 4-0 away with our 2nd choice centre back pairing and Southampton 5-0 with Gray, Spence and Bergvall starting but lost to Bournemouth and Forest and got trounced by Liverpool in the same run.

So you can argue that things will improve when players come back....I'd argue the results have actually just followed the existing trend regardless of who is available.
I think both Palace and Ipswich were after we’d played midweek and they’d had the week to prepare?

Isn't this something that teams in Europe just have to deal with? I don't get what you're trying to say? Ange gets a free pass over bad results with a fit squad because we've got to play in Europe?
Yes, which is why you don’t go into the season with only 18 outfield players who are actually men in your squad. We’re 3 players under where we could/should be and it is showing.

It’s 100% what you have to deal with
It’s why I’d love to know whose idea it was to lose the 13 players we shipped out in the summer and replace them with the 4 signings plus Yang and Moore
Nuts
Strange though seeing Chelsea having to play their first 11 back to back to back and suffering
This is a really condensed season and before you ask what’s new…
League format Europe so more games for all the sides playing
No random winter week off like they did the last few years
And a middle tier of teams that’s are genuinely competitive
Pool will win the exaggerated with around 95 points
The next nearest team will be early 80s IMO but the teams below that cluster will be separated by much smaller margins IMO
That’s not how the leagues been in a long while form memory

We signed Gray and Bergvall and brought through Moore to play them. Just because they don't technically have to be registered doesn't mean they're not taking up a squad space in the plans of the coaching and technical staff at the club. The other thing I'm getting tired of explaining is that you need 8 locally trained and 4 club trained players in your UEFA list.

They were at various points because some players couldn’t get game time to get fit or play
We did also have a squad last year that and 14 players who aren’t here now

How many of those 14 were active members of last seasons PL squad? Half? We signed 4 players in the summer, promoted 2 from the academy and now have Spence part of the squad who wasn't last season (unless I'm mistaken there) and that's from a starting point where the discussion previously was all about how bloated/full of deadwood the squad was.

Postecoglu said when he first joined he thought our squad was too big. I think he likes working with a small core group of players. Most "system" managers do.

So last season they all played games for us, all 14
Hell some even started at city away in what was one of our highlights
Some naturally played less than others but they all played games and come played some important ones too
