2011 think it was the last away game of the season and Van der Vaart got the winner 2-0 rings a bell, and a Modric pen???Won 3-2 there under Redknapp once I'm sure we did

There is a happy medium somewhere between the two extremes of Conte and Ange. Ange isn't a million miles off that but we are a bit too gung go with the calibre of player we have to be taken seriously. Then you just invite pressure. We wouldn't have scored the 4th. And we'd have probably lost.
Can I ask, you must have loved Conte's tenure?
I think if he had more than 3 players on the bench who had actually started a senior league game he may have made more changesThere is a happy medium somewhere between the two extremes of Conte and Ange. Bruno put in 2/3 top quality balls a decent striker would have put awayTo be fair it's definitely a game they could have won. Fairly close game up until our second goal, and again after their second goal.
Just to be clear making it a fairly close game overall with us missing that many players is rather good on our part. Vicario, Romero, VdV, Davies, Udogie, Bentancur, Odobert, Werner, Richarlison, Moore (am I forgetting someone?). Overall a good performance with some serious blips and issues being evident.
How many would we need to lead by in the 1st leg to think we have a chance to go through at Anfield?
If we let the current 13th best team into a game under zero pressure, you've got to wonder how the system will fair against good opposition.
It is a future problem, don't get me wrong it's great to pick up two wins and the accompanying momentum, but the players are so very frail in their mentality, we need leaders who settle the younger players down to enable them to flourish, yet it's the experienced ones who are bricking the bed.
I’d prefer to be a “3-0 up and see out the game quietly” team.

We've only lost games this season by a solitary goal so there lies your answer
That is a genuinely interesting/ surprising stat, but sorry Billy I'm not seeing the link to my post. I suppose it props up our rather curious goal difference to where we lie in the table.
From that you could infer that we're quite hard to beat? Or that we manage to keep in games even if we lose a lot of them...I might be missing your point entirely, I almost certainly am!
Have we not played good opposition this season? Chelsea and the Goons beat us by a single goal, we beat Villa by 4 and City by 4 goals. Football doesn't work by saying 'this happened against the team 13th in the league, therefore this would happen against team x/y/z'.How many would we need to lead by in the 1st leg to think we have a chance to go through at Anfield?

the titanic bit made me smirk
But for 2 horrendous errors, that would have been the plan? Maybe our dominance would have led to a fourth, but I don’t think we ever plan to give away goals.
Definitely not.
I do think we can - and should - be a bit more sensible when we have a 2 or 3 goal lead though. I was pulling my hair out in the stand last night watching us hare around to get the ball quickly back into play at 2 and 3 nil up, and even at 3-1 up. There are times we need to slow it down and be smart.

I've watched the entire season if you haven't noticed a pattern of defensive frailties have a look at the stats. I get you overly optimistic and want to only see the positives but there is a middle ground. We aren't brick but we also aren't great. It is wholly up to you whether you show faith and take us seriously or not. Did you watch the second half of the Southampton game? Did you watch Forster gift two goals last night? You know, maybe its your analysis that we shouldn't take seriously.
Becoming?ange
ange's reluctance to use subs is becoming an issue
spence for instance... what took him so long to bring the boy on- he is better than udogie who has been underperforming for a long while
You mean Gray?We need a DM or a CM which can handle defensive duties and moves the ball fast. We also need a LB. Spence has come în wonderfully but his natural position is RB and I am tired of improvisation. Udogie and Bissouma need proper competition for those spots. I heard that Vicario might be out for another 2 months, we also might need to take a look at a GK. That is the winter transfer business I am hoping the club addresses.
That is one of the benefits of an older more experienced backup GK. Should be better positioned to brush things like this off than a younger player lacking experience.
A lot of support from the staff for Forster heading off the pitch last night from what I could see on TV. Forster has bailed the rest of the team out in several games with some excellent saves. Yesterday the rest of the team bailed him out. Go again.
I think we can. I think it's very unlikely, but it's possible so of course we can.
If we played a different way, we would never of been 3-0 up in the first place. At the end of the day we aren't the perfect team, and people will always find something to whinge about if they want to. Personally I'm just enjoying us playing some damn
good football win or lose because I was one of those who said after the Conte era I don't care about winning (because we don't do that however we play), just want to see us playing some good football. And unlike many on here who said it, I actually meant it....
