** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool ** 8.1.25 at 8pm

Noticed it in pre-season, Bergvall has talent as a ball winner. He twice tackled their keeper. You think he's a fancy-pants flare player, but he can use his strength well to win back possession. Unlike in previous games he used the ball better too. Gave it his all tonight. And got the reward.

As I never listen to the "expert pundits" on TV I suppose I'll miss them saying "he's not that sort of boy" when they discuss Bervall or their disapproval of Liverpool players diving about for "penalties". They'll probably spend most of the time talking about what a terrific performance this was from an injury decimated Spurs side. I think I shouldn't have had that 4th pint I'll be up all night.

It hasn't been enforced like this since the creation of the rule, though. The extreme attention to detail is utterly absurd, as being a centimeter in offside give you absolutely zero advantage. I was all for VAR before it was introduced. I've been against it since the first season. It sucks. Brings nothing to the game. Suffocates it. Football loses a lot of joy when you can't spontaneously celebrate a goal.
That's just inaccurate application of the rule, because humans are not machines - but it's still inaco.

I agree with most of that.
But the majority of the football community being intolerant of officiating errors or inaccuracies created the forensic approach - so we have to live with what we created. We all did this.

I think it is totally fair what VVD said in a Sky interview about it being a yellow. He said there is a referee, linesmen, VAR etc and is spot on if you take that incident in isolation. It was missed by the officials.

So we wait to see whether the FA accept his objective interview or whether we see another situation where PGMOL do the arse covering thing and put him on an FA charge.

The net, net is that these refs are incompetent. The first one wasn't a yellow, the second one was. That's 2 mistakes, not to mention the other yellows that were missed again.

It is fair, if VVD was sent off too for his cynical studs down the back of Solanke's calf.

The logic from both Smith and Redknapp. The first one shouldn't have been given, but since it was he should have been sent off.
I assume they will always say that every situation should be considered independently from everything else in the future as well.
