Our FBs tuck in and the wide players don't support defensively so there pretty much always an overload available if the opposition can hit the sweeping pass accurately. We never ever do anything about it. It's inherent to the setup we use.
I've seen it for a while now. You are right. Nothing is ever done about it. Hope strategy.

Club signings themselves aren't a problem, but you have to have a coach who is willing to work that way. Conte clearly never was so we just wasted a while year of Spence's career and possibly that led into the over long delay in him getting time in Ange's team.

True, but Ange also had him out at Leeds and Genoa last season.

It was a very interesting start for Ange in the 23/24 pre-season. He dismissed both Spence and Reggie, when some of us would argue they were better full-back bets than Emerson and Davies. Perhaps even more suited.

Glad he got there in the end with Spence though, and generally thinks he's mostly right about Reggie for the long term. He would have been nothing more than a stop gap.

I wonder if Ange had heard bad things about Spence. Managers often inherit problem players as deemed by the club and they often just bin them off, it takes a strong personality to decide to work with the player anyway.
