*** Official Video Game Thread ***

Played a good few hours on FarCry3 now and Im really enjoying it. It does feel very much like a console game but it runs well on PC. Its much more fun exploring the map than in FarCry2 where you couldnt go anywhere without taking out endless outposts that refilled the enemies when u came back through 5 mins later.

I like the crafting. Having to hunt various animals for their skin to craft upgrades to carry more weapons and ammo is pretty good fun.

Im about Chapter 5 or 6 in the story at the mo... No idea how many chapters but Id guess im prob no more than a 3rd of the way through. I spend alot of time capturing outposts, hunting animals to craft upgrades and seeking out radio towers to open up more of the map (much like in Assassins Creed). Currently done 8 of 18 so far. Theres also hundreds of sevcrets to find like relics (not sure what these do but got 9 so far) and WW2 letters (unlock history of island).

All in all its a great improvement on FC2 and and all round well put together game. A must for any shooter fans. Not tried Multiplayer yet but it has had good reviews... Altho not expecting any COD or BF3 beater

No you take outposts and they become safehouses you can use to fast travel to. Thats the biggest improvement from the last game.
You do get the odd patrols and that in Pirate controlled areas but they are fun to take out.

Also love the stealth. It aint no Splinter Cell but its not far from Dishonored stealth. Love the takedowns and you can unlock more elaborate takedowns like death from above or chain your takedowns for more XP. And XP earns you upgraded moves, health, etc. In the form of a tattoo on your arm.

Talking of release dates, still no confirmed PC release date for GTA5. A quick google brought some worrying articles that it may not even be ported to PC!? But newer articles seem to think otherwise and that itll be announced soon.

Yeah early rumours were Xmas so its already been kicked back a good 4 months. Can almost be certain it'll be delayed... A game this ambitious
 
New Bioshock: Infinite video showing 15mins of gameplay. Looks alot more fast paced than the last 2 Bioshocks. This is probably the next big game on my wanted list... Looks great so far

I need some info/advice. I think a lot of parents/adults are going through this dilemma right now.

To start of I will say that my two Nephews have two consoles, Wii and xbox360

One has put on his Santa List at the top he wants the Wii U

What are the benefits of the Wii U. All I can see is that it means that the family can watch tv whilst they play the Wii, hardly sociable, which IMO was what the interactive Wii is all about. But I want them to be happy and make sure Santa brings them what they want.

Thing is, they don't have a clue about whats coming, or how improved the Wii U is over the Wii. (Neither do I about the two Wii's)

Anyway, I would prefer to get them the xbox Kinect and a couple hundred pounds token to go towards next years release of the new Xbox.

So, my questions, am I doing the right thing. Is there a big enough gap between the Wii and Wii U to basically buy that for £300+. Forget the Wii U and go with my gut instinct. They will have basically have two Wii's will they not if I got the Wii U.. what's the fricken point of that.

What would you do?. Go for bad uncle in short term, but super duper uncle long-term or basically give them what they want.
 
I played the wii u the other day.

Personally I didn't like the large controller. Lots of games tell you to look on the screen, then the pad over and over. Gives me a headache!

It does have normal games like call of duty etc. the wii you I think is basically a Xbox and a wii in one. You can also control sky with the control pad which is clever.

What games do they tend to play on the wii? If its stuff like wii sports and wii designed games I don't see a point of upgrading.
 
From what I heard early on it was supposed to bring to Wii on par with Xbox 360. The touch pad brings a new dimension to gameplay but it also has a Xbox styled gamepad too.

Lately I have heard that some developers are pulling out of making games for the WiiU tho as the processor speed isnt great and it's a difficult system to develope for. The developers of Metro Last Light have pulled out their title as they cant get it to run without sacrificing too much visually. The game is coming out on PS3 and 360 tho so this means the WiiU isnt quite up to par with these now 7yr old consoles. Also the touchpad has a poor battery life, only 4hrs. Plus it needs to be plugged into the wall to charge so gonna need a spare socket.

That said tho the review of the Mario game for it was said to be one of the best Marios made. Altho ZombieU wasnt great. Not sure what else is available for it but knowing Nintendo there'll be plenty of child friendly and family games coming out for it.

No idea when the new Xbox is due out and also not much info on upcoming Kinect titles? Doesnt seem to have kicked off as much as people expected. So yeah cant really help thrre but hope this WiiU review helps

This is looking really really good! Alot more like the Uncharted games but apparently the game will be freeroaming rather than levels like in past Tomb Raiders. This has just moved up my list of most wanted games of 2013. Out March 5th, but apparently the game is already finished they are just polishing it now

Forgive me if its a dumb question but are there similarities to Skyrim?

Very excited about that Tomb Raider trailer too, the original is one of my favourite games of all time!

Not overly similar. It has some minor RPG elements but its still ultimately an action shooter.

And there are a couple more Tomb Raider gameplay videos on Youtube. One shows the beginning of the game where u have to find shelter and go hunt a deer for food. Another shows Lara fightong a large wolf in a cave... It looks fantastic and really hope they pull it off

The new xbox is said to get its first airing at the E3 2013 event, with a late November release.

I'm really liking the ‘Immersive Display Experience’ that was found out by Patents being made by Microsoft, which will make you feel your in the game.

The simple fact that the machine will be 6 times more powerful is a seller for me. If the Console costs like £400 in a bundle, they will have half that already and it can help them saving towards something too. So I think I am going to throw the Wii U idea onto the fire.

Time to lay the foundations of working towards a bit of brainwashing.
