**Official Other Games Thread, Season 2012/13**

So, Real Madrid paid 80m for Ronaldo to win 1 league and 2 Spanish Cups ? What a wasted investment ! Ronaldo is just so over rated ! For all the big name players and manager they have, Ronaldo couldn't even help Real qualify for CL final. He is a coward if he is to leave Real without helping them win the CL for all the money they invested in him. Real should demand back the 80m from him. Hope Bale will realise this if and when Real Madrid try to sign him. They have not won the CL since 2002 and doesn't look like winning it nowadays.

Messi is not fit to tie Maradona's boot laces until he helps Argentina win the World Cup. Similiarly, Cristiano Ronaldo is not fit to tie Messi's boot laces until he helps Real Madrid win the Champions League. Just can't see them doing that.

Ryan Bertrand is the played Ronaldo's position in the winning Champion's League team last season. Presumably by this logic he's better than waste of money overrated 197 goals in 195 Madrid appearances Ronaldo.

Surely, goals means nothing for a club like Real Madrid. They need to win trophies, especially in Europe. I am sure they spend 80m on Ronaldo to win the CL which they used to dominate. IMO, winning 1 League and 2 Spanish Cups is a very poor return for 80m they spend on Ronaldo.

Considering they paid 56m at the same time for Kaka they got a bargain for Ronaldo.

Ludicrous comment.

You don't have any idea what you're talking about, so you resort to silly responses like that. Very common around the around the forum I've noticed. Instead of backing up their own opinions with facts people resort to laughing at and ridiculing those of others. Very politician like, avoid saying anything with substance.

The black and white mentality is ruining so many potential discussions. Most players aren't pants and neither are they amazing, they are somewhere in between. This is something that troubles quite a few on here. If you don't agree with someone saying a player is great and we should be all over him, it doesn't automatically mean that you think he is brick. And vice versa.

To me there is no doubt that Cardozo right now is a better striker than Benteke, but Cardozo is at the peak of his career. You don't have a 10 year career averaging 2 goals every 3 games if you are "pants". In 2010 he finished as top scorer in the Europa League and the Portuguese league (ahead of one Radamel Falcao). 'Oh, but it's only the Portuguese league, that's pants too.' Well, Benteke came from the Belgian league that is arguably much weaker. He's proven he cope physically, but would he work in a different system than he's playing in currently? Not so sure and I certainly don't see him as a natural fit for us.

When considering which one would be the best buy for us other factors come into play though. Age, potential, fee, wages. Benteke could and most likely will get better, but how much? Is he worth the £15-20 million that Villa will be asking? Not a chance. Cardozo two years ago would have cost that, now you could get him for less, but I think he is more than happy to stay where he is. Would probably take silly money for him to uproot his family. I think all in all it's a close call between the two as a potential purchase. Cardozo is a proven and well known quantity, from scouting POV it's easy to determine what exactly you will get, whereas Benteke comes with some uncertainty. How big is his potential and how likely is it that he will fulfill it? All this is for the people in charge to study closer and decide upon and I trust their judgement above anyone on this forum. Most likely neither of them are being looked at.

Sometimes feels like there's these two approved lists of players. One good, one bad. And you're not allowed to argue against them, but should you try you're just met by  and smartass comments like 'apparently most on this forum don't want a 20 goal striker'. Sometimes they come from absolutely nowhere, like some of the comments about Adebayor last night. Nobody had mentioned him at all, then suddenly there was some comment about him apparently being better than Benteke at something. Classic 'let's make fun of those that don't hate Ade'. These ridiculous attempts at point scoring are showing up more and more. Is there like some daily hate quota that needs to be filled??

I should have stopped reading after your condescending attempt at dismissing others opinions and making assumptions / generalisations based on nothing more than your own internet GG reality. Ironic considering the closing line of your post.

Why can't people express their own opinions rather than denigrate those of others

I am expressing my opinion - one if disagreement and sheer surprise that someone like yourself who clearly portays himself to be in possession of superior football knowledge would like to see another average player at the club. I'm not degrading your opinion - that would be the equivalent of suggesting 'you don't have a clue what you're on about'. Below please find an extract of your last 3 posts towards myself and others who called up on some of the players you mentioned - it is also known as difference of opinion.

You don't have any idea what you're talking about, so you resort to silly responses like that

It's responses like this that tells me who knows their football and who doesn't.

Not really building much credibility with your opinions there.

Cardozo in my personal opinion is an average player who has been exactly that his entire career with the odd flash of brilliance in the mighty Liga Sagres - that is not the type of player I would like to see us aspiring to bring into what is essentially a young team in transition pushing for a consistent Top 4 challenge. We need quality players and / or ones with potential - not 6/10s. He is absolutely no better than someone like Pav or Defoe - both technically and potential wise - not to mention he's almost 30. A worthwhile player of that age would be someone of VdV or Kaka's ability - proven class unit who can bring both experience and quality to the side, as well as a winner's mentality - instead of average semi-cloggers who run-around-a-bit. Going back to your Benteke comments - yes, I much rather see us invest in a younger player and give him the chance instead of throwing money down the well on dwindling players - but that is a separate argument all together

I've said this before and will repeat again - rather see us punt on 1 quality player than 3 average ones who'd most likely cost more in wages and contribute half as much. That is my personal aspiration as a fan and one I don't believe is unreasonable or unattainable - this is not about signing Ronaldo or Ozil - simply having a clear outlook and set of objectives as far as our scouting network unit is concerned. And before you turn this into a vicious attack on Levy - yes, I do believe there is substantial room for improvement in our scouting which at the moment is hardly an optimum setup, imv

If you find the above comments 'degrading' towards your football opinion, then I'd suggest you re-evaluate your own frame of reference as far as information exchange and debate on here is concerned. If you are not prepared to have your postings challenged at any time - then why bother

All the football intelligentsia writing off Benteke and Michu. "Oh, they're just one season wonders, I've seen it all before". I'd take either in a heart beat, we would have signed a striker, something we've been failing to do quite regularly for years. Any transfer has its risks.

Good post

We have signed strikers but largely average ones which has wasted millions in fees and wages

Jammy time-wasting qunts

Hope Bayern humiliate them in the final, as well as their 2-bob coach

Mate, when it comes to Madrid, you really are a sore loser. Dortmund were by far the better team in the first leg, Madrid only scored because Hummels had a brainfart. And even though Madrid were the better side last night, Dortmund still could have scored at least 5. Mourinho's teams are the masters of time wasting, cynical fouling, dissent and any other kind of underhanded tactics you can think of. I think Dortmund proved conclusively over the 4 games against Madrid that the best team went through.

As for Madrid, they rely too much on Ronaldo. Really don't think Ozil and Khedira are all that, Modric has flattered to deceive and Higuain is a very good striker, not a great one.

And wasn't it just typical Mourinho making last night all about him?! I like him but I do get tired of the constant media circus around him, he's up there with Becks and Arry in that respect.

Ronaldo and Ozil were both poor last night (and Higuain to some degree), I thought Khedira made a difference when he came on.

To much self inflicted pressure on Ronaldo maybe, he often tries to do too much in those situations.

One thing that is intriguing tonight is that six Bayern players are a yellow card away from missing the final:

Lahm
Schweinsteiger
Gustavo
Gomez
Martinez
Dante

I think cards should be wiped once you get to the quarters but still, there's some important players there. Bayern's squad is much stronger this year but they wouldn't want an important player missing out on the final.

Graeme Bailey ‏@GraemeBailey 57s
Sessegnon appeal rejected, along with Giroud - both were totally frivolous and each should have had extra games added on.

Bayern have tinkled this. Cant wait for the final. Hope they put up some big screens somewhere round town.

You could hear a roar go up a minute a go from my window. Quality.
