O/T Olympic Football 2012

And what did I say? You'll be shutting the fudge up just about now I'm assuming?
Why so aggressive?:D
All you did was kept repeating what I wrote and saying "GALAXY DONT PAY HIM ALL THAT MONEY;KK?" which is obvious as fudge as not a single top player gets all his money from the club.

No he's brilliant. Barca want to sign him on 5 year deal and tell Messi he's not needed anymore. But the galaxy have stolen David's heart unfortunately!!

Ronaldo was the only player Fergie sold that he didn't want to.

He got rid of Beckham because he got tired of Beckham's ego presumably. He got rid of Paul the guvnor Ince for the same reason.

And you'd have to say he was right. Beckham went on to win 1 trophy at Madrid, whilst Fergie replaced him with Ronaldo and the rest is history.

Come on mate. Whoever he plays for, he is going to bring in brickloads of money in shirt sales alone. He's not being paid for his football ability. I'd take him at Spurs for this reason alone! Imagine what he'd do for our profits!

I didn't say that he was bought for only footballing reasons, obviously,he was already 34 at the time!
Just saying that he still makes a brickloads of money, competing with the likes of Ronaldo and Messi. There is no way you could be a global brand like Beckham if you were a brick footballer, that was my point.
Someone here would think that Beckham was like David bentley after reading some of the comments here :)

This!!! Sold the show pony for 25 million and signed Ronaldo for half that!!

Beckham plays for the galaxy for a reason. He's brick. There's nowt else to say really. And I'm delighted he's not in the squad as its a massive fudge you to all the mouth breathing mongs who worship his celebrity.

That's the point, Beckham can!

I believe that part of his appeal is similar to the appeal of programmes like X Factor, he appeals to the lowest common denominator. I'll try and put this as delicately and politely as possible, he's thicker than two short planks. He's a family man. Good looking guy. He's gone from zero to hero, which the papers love btw!

As a footballer, he relied on his crossing ability and his range of passing. He's as one dimensional of a footballer as I've ever seen! He could never take the game by the scruff of the neck like Zidane could or Figo (some of the players he was compared to), unless it was from a set piece. From open play, he could never rescue teams.

I agree with everything from your post, except with the ability part-but then again, everyone rates footballers differently.I dont rate him nearly as much as I do Zidane or Figo, but that is always the media, comparing their nation darlings(Beckham,Ballack) to the true greats (Zidane).I do think that if he would have stayed at Manchester,he would be put in the same sentence as Giggs and Scholes now.

I ll just write one last comment(already 2am here...)

I think that Beckham was a very good player, back in the day.He doesn't deserve to start for the Olympic team now(he is 37 afterall),but to maybe bring him on for 15-20 mins against the weaker teams and let him show some of his class(shooting, crossing) would be nice ;)

But,he is not going,it's not the end of the world, and in a few days nobody will talk about it anymore!

Gn8,and Leeds, dont dream about Beckham,it might be your worst nightmare in a long time :)

My point is you said Fergie got rid of coz he was brick (paraphrasing) when he has a history of selling players who still have a lot left in them.

Someone said how wonderful it is the dignity beckhams shown from not getting picked? Surely if the man had dignity he'd shut his mouth and let Pearce announce the squad in due course? Only reason beckham or should I say his team of advisors have already announced he's been left out is due to the hysteria like this that it has whipped up in the hope that the publics support for him will end in some 11th hour u turn and a call up

That was me. There is no way D-Beck would've been able to get past any sort of press without being hounded for an answer to how 'he felt about not being picked'. It's magnified because of who he is. If Gerrard (just an example) was earmarked to be in the squad and wasn't picked, he would have been hounded too. But he's not a 'global superstar' like Beckham, so the furore behind the 'for' and 'against' crew wouldn't have been as heated.

Thought you were talking about me for a second there.....

And you're Beckham/Niko comment is disgraceful. I thought you were cool man [-(

I know. I know. And it's something I can never take back..... #-o

Just to put my final two-pennies worth (I've realised I've been more vocal in a thread about Beckham than any Spurs-related thread on here, ever!!). A few of you have questioned his ability and how he's never 'taken a game by the scruff of the neck'. THAT game against Greece, it wasn't just about his free-kick, which was mind-blowing in itself in such a high-pressure situation. He DID take that game by the scruff of the neck. He was everywhere. He got us the result we needed in that game, pure and simple.

After being dropped not just from the first 11 but from the RM squad by Capello, who told the press he wouldn't be picking Beckham again, hence his decision to sign a pre-contract with Galaxy, his performances in training prompted Capello to re-think his decision. Becks got back in the team and was instrumental in Madrid going on to win the title. If memory serves, Capello even back-tracked and said he regretted his decision to not only drop Beckham, but to allow Galaxy to get his signature when he felt he was surplus to requirements.

With Man U, he had plenty of MOM displays, but lets be fair, it's difficult for ANY player to take a game by the scruff of the neck when you are playing next to the likes of Keane/Scholes/Cantona/RVN/Giggs. He more than held his own though. Overrated maybe. definitely not a brick footballer. Lastly, I am not a 'mong' ;)

Gareth Bale will miss the Olympic football tournament after picking up an injury, dealing a huge blow to Team GB’s prospects of success in the London 2012 tournament next month.

Telegraph Sport can reveal that Bale picked up the injury in the last 48 hours and informed Team GB coach Stuart Pearce that he will be unavailable for selection.
The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder is understood to have aggravated an old injury to his back and hip area while on a training run to stay fit for the Games.
Following medical advice and a scan, he is not prepared to risk exacerbating the problem in the Olympics football tournament.
With up to six games in a 19-day period, the Olympics offered minimal time for recuperation and Bale could have expected to start every game.
He is understood to be determined to be fit for the start of Tottenham’s Premier League campaign, which begins a week after the end of the Olympics on Aug 12, but there must be a chance he will not be ready for the first game, away to Saudi Sportswashing Machine.
