Re: So, plan b - FDB or Benitez?

Why does FdB get elevated above someone like Murat Yakin? I've been more impressed with his work at Basel and I love their style of play. Both would be similarly risky appointments, to dare is to do though, I guess.

I aggree, im suprised Yakin hasnt been mentioned, done a very good job Basel and they play in a fluent attacking style as shown at WHL.
Another im suprised hasnt been mentioned is Unai Emery, did an excellent job at Valencia and had them in the top 4, and now doing an excellent job at sevilla. He's young plays goodlooking football, we know what happened last time we took a manager from Sevilla though \o/

Why, oh why, does Levy always insist on ****ing about and costing us by taking far too long to take decisive action?! Perhaps if we had agreed a deal with LVG in the winter, we would be set up and looking forward to a managerial great arriving at our club in the summer....but nope!!

Re: So, plan b - FDB or Benitez?

Absolutely agree.

I was gonna have a fiver on Yakin the other day, not in the betting at all, not listed on Betfair either.

He's available on bet365 at 7/1 if you fancy it. I love the way Basel play, a real nice balance of counter attacking football but with the technical ability in there to back it up. I'm not going to pretend I know a great deal about FdB and Ajax but from what I gather it's very possession based with patient build up - a style I don't find particularly exciting to watch.

ive said this before......in December Levy should have put Freund in temporary charge till the end of the season and got LVG to sign up to take over after the World Cup. Clean and clear, everyone knows what is happening.

I would have had Hoddle in for the half season. But otherwise, can we not just stop faffing about and actually go out there and make things happen...just for once!!

Re: So, plan b - FDB or Benitez?

Exactly. Zero chance. Not that I want him at Spurs but we always do this to ourselves with players - delude ourselves that if we want Benitez then its a dead cert that he'll come. Its not. Its very low probability that he'll leave Napoli to join us

Just humour 'em. It's the same people who deluded themselves that LVG was nailed on to take over. They must be following another club to the one I have for the last few decades.

Anyways, unless we suffer complete humiliation in our last three games I can see Levy sticking with Sherwood for another year. I don't trust him to make an appointment anymore but I do feel that he won't sack the manager he's got now to gamble on another unproven young up and coming one. He (and us) have been down that road too many times.

The thing is that some journalists are stating that LVG agreed in principle to the job back then however he told Levy that if Man UTD came in for him he would take it. Now the first time I saw this info was actually on here so I'm not sure if the media got hold of the idea from this board and posted it as fact or that there is genuine ITK underneath it all

And how should Levy have made LVG sign a pre contract exactly?

If Levy couldn't agree a deal with LVG then he must have another amazing manager lined up, otherwise why fritter our club's chances away by placing half a season in the hands of an idiot.

Our chances of what? You may not have noticed but we weren't looking like we was going to achieve any more than we have before Sherwood was in charge

by making the right offer that he couldnt refuse...........LVG made all the right noises, he wanted to come to the PL. You dont let people like him slip through you're fingers

GB is asking which we would prefer - no suggestion that Benitez will come.
I'm undecided really, FdB intrigues me yet Benitez has a proven record.

Not just short term chances. Or are you denying the longer term negative impact that Sherwood has had on this club?

Plus, if it wasn't going to be LVG, then perhaps we could have appointed a new manager to take over from there onwards. And for those discussing the lack of options at that time, it's hardly like there are a lot now, is it?

At least though the manager would have had time with our current crop of players; time to work in his tactics and to get to work with the current crop of players.

But instead we appoint Sherwood....joke!

I don't think the last X amount of months would have any impact on who we will be able to appoint come the summer, no.

Personally i wanted AVB to see out the season at the very least but taking all the info rumors in to consideration it seems his heart wasn't in the job anymore, which put us in a tricky position.

Yakin for me is the only coach I would bring in outside of the English game.
