Which completely ignores the fact that it was clear from January that Conte was off at the end of the year. Doesn't seem to have been much planning for that.
There hasn’t been continuity planning at this club for many years when it comes to football matters.

So brendan or poste.
If going from appointing ex Chelsea managers to appointing ex celtic managers isn't a come down then i don't know what is.

Would it be too early to consider poch an ex Chelsea manager and approach him?

The last 3 permanent managers have been gambles though - two because they were 'win now' managers yet we didnt have a squad which was ready for that, and the other because he was about 14th choice and defensive.

If we aren't prepared to pay to get a Slot, de Zerbi or someone who excites, I'd have thought we'd be better playing safe rather than taking another gamble which would point me to Potter...but I dont know a thing about Ange, just feels unusual given his background
If we get PE Teacher Potter then can we pay him a PE teacher’s salary?

I'm not actually sure Potter would take the job. He had a short stint at Chelsea - would he want to risk going to another hire & fire club? Two short stints as a manager makes it look like you, even if there are other circumstances. If he would take it then I'd go for him just because from the obviously available candidates he might be the most stable for 1-2 years. We dont want to be appointing yet another manager in a year

Levy has done a lot for the club but our manager/DoF appointments and planning have been very very poor

There are now two options open to the club.

1. Give Poch or Nagelsmann whatever they need in terms of structure that will lead to their appointment.

2. Continue with our current restructure plans and appoint the best possible fit available from the diminishing pool on a 2 year deal with an option for a third year. We can then move this person on in 12 months if they don’t show themselves to be a Slot or De Zerbi and then appoint Slot or De Zerbi.

The other consideration is Kane likely stays in scenario 1 and leaves in scenario 2.

I think De Zerbi has shown what a transformational manager can do and has also shown that Potter is quite average.

But I am open to appointing a Potter on 2 year deal and seeing how he does.

That way we can move him on next Summer when other targets are available it just means the Kane era is 100% over.

My preference is we alter our restructure plans to suit Nagelsmann and appoint him.
Why will there be better manager targets available next summer than this summer?

Nope haha so I can still have my own opinions based on little evidence. I base my Levy hatred on his time at the club and how we have only won two trophies which is one less than Emirates Marketing Project seem destined to win this season. It’s completely unacceptable. And Levy always says he wants to make things right and yet we have seen no evidence of this more we have seen evidence to the contrary.
1 trophy.

I dont think option 1 is available. Poch is rumoured to have signed a deal to join you-know-who on July 1st and I doubt Levy will bend to a manager's requests for a different DoF structure etc.

So I agree with option 2, with a low-release-fee manager or someone who is out of work. I think that leaves Rodgers or Potter and potentially Ange P, depending on how much Celtic want. Enrique has said he wants a team that can challenge immediately and Amorim would be pricey.

I don't think Rodgers or Potter would achieve the goal of reconnecting fans with the club. I dont know much about Ange but feels like a gamble which could go either way.

Indeed. I wish the club would stop putting all these names out there:rolleyes:

Let's not be naive there: everybody knows that if a club like Spurs stays managerless for three months, there's going to be speculation and a lot of names will fly around, particularly after what happened a couple of years ago. You want to put an end to that? You simply put out a press release saying you've got your man, it's a done deal but you're not at liberty to name him before the end of the season. End of the story.

But they won't do that because they'd look like idiots of they ended up with Potter or Rodgers or if they're still looking for their man in August. Again, for me, it makes no difference, whoever it is, I'm willing to see how it pans out. But I'm an armchair fan. I go to the stadium once a year if I'm lucky. Saying people are idiots because they believe the papers is both, in my opinion, patronizing (during the pandemic, it was those who didn't believe the papers who were idiots) and idealistic. Whether you like it or not, people will get their hopes up when they hear names like Nagelsmann's.

If a majority of fans turn on the new guy because of that, it's no good for anyone.

Let's look at it differently: what have the board done in the last two months that couldn't have been done in two weeks?

Nagelsmann was €25m apparently, but yes, it’s a big cost. That said, we'd probably pay him half the salary which we were paying Conte....
I don’t think he would be anywhere as much as that. Bayern are currently liable to pay him the remainder of his contract over his contract length. I’m sure Bayern would be happy for another club to take on that burden and seeing as how we don’t represent even the merest threat to their position in European football we would be a reasonable option to them to do so.

I didnt say Nagelsmann would be €25m! That's what Bayern are reported to have paid RB Leipzig to get him released!

Honestly, the only way I can see Levy bringing people around is to go all out for Poch and back him. There is such a negative vibe around the club right now he needs to pull something out of the hat.

But it shouldn’t be seen that way when a) a manager is the most important part, and b) paying off a poor manager will end up costing a lot more in the long run. Look at how much we spent on Conte and Mourinho both of whom would likely have had significantly larger salaries than Slot would have had. And then we had both leave and I assume both had sizeable exit packages. I don’t know for Conte but I expect Mourinho did.
Any manager at Spurs is going to demand a salary of £10m+. The expectation from the chairman in terms of results is significantly higher than the budget provided, therefore large financial compensation is the only real carrot for a manager.
