Nacer Chadli

I've never been sure about that. Do you expect French/Italians to put on a faux English accent to pronounce your name? And even then a Michael from London pronounces his own name very differently to a Michael from Saudi Sportswashing Machine. I think you just accept people pronounce it with their on accent.

I wish they would just say Casorla rather than pretend they know Spanish.

Too true. I remember a Norwegian commentator back in the day going out of his way to pronounce merrrrrson. Sounded ridiculous. :p

For me the least a commentator should do is try to figure out how a player would say his own name and try to get close-ish to that using the sounds of the commentator's language.

Accents is different of course. No one is expecting an English commentator to switch between queen's English, Scottish, Irish and US accents/dialects depending on where the player is from. Would sound ridiculous.

When there are sounds in the player's name not used in the commentator's language it's a bit more difficult imo. Can sound very strange and prevent fluency to try to introduce a lot of new sounds. At the same time some sounds can actually sound ok. I don't think I have a strong preference.

Accent and pronunciation is not really the same thing. It is still possible to pronounce a foreign name the correct the way and at the same time keep the accent of your mother tongue.

I just want english commentator to find out how the foreign name is supposed to be pronounced and TRY to adapt as good as possible. Most of the time it sound like they don't care.

One of those players that'll pop up with a key season-defining goal at the right time...winner vs West Ham or Le Scum this week?

Great sub again by Poch. Brings in Chagli and he scores. Last PL match it's Lamela who sets up the Eriksen winner. I remember when we used to complain about his substitutions.

I might actually be in love with you.
