That is simply not true. He was a very good player at Fulham which is why we bought him and then he was superb in AVB's first season alongside Sandro. This has been done a million times before.I think it's Poch's biggest achievement in terms of player development (Rose probably comes second).
Dembele had been flattering to deceive for a decade. He'd played for LVG, Koeman, Advocaat and Jol, and none of them could train into him competent decision-making and how to effectively utilise his talents. Poch has got him to cut-out all his bad instincts.
At 28 he was hardly a raw talent. His late blooming is potentially up there with Marcos Senna's c.2006-8.

Nice vid. Thanks for posting it.

It's like watching a dad weave up and down the pitch with his 4 sons trying to nick the ball off him, man against boys.Quite simply the best player on the pitch today, love watching him
I think based on his (obvious) talent flattered to deceive is a good description. Was linked to the biggest clubs in the league when at Fulham with a release clause of only £15m, ended up with us. Did well with us for a while, then not so much. Was being talked of as one that could easily end up at Real Madrid.
With that amount of potential and ability he has at the very least failed to live up to that potential. Flattered to deceive is a bit harsh, but not untrue.
I don't subscribe to this unfulfilled potential argument especially when the evidence put forward is he has not played for any one bigger than Spurs. He does a job, a very good one, as he has always done but he is not the type of metronomic play maker in the Modric or Ozil mould who are coveted by the top teams. There are many reasons why players are not signed by the so called bigger teams, but I think it is hugely unfair to view them as a lesser players because of it. In any case, I understand that United were looking at him around the time we signed him but we got in there quickly before they had a chance to make any concrete offer.I think based on his (obvious) talent flattered to deceive is a good description.
