Mousa Dembele

Great goal and a very good little goal scoring run he's starting up now...

As the stat posted by Steve shows it's an area where he has been lacking, although to defend him a bit a lot of those games have been as a deeper midfielder.

Thought it was positive from him even before his goal when he shifted the ball to his right foot and tried the shot from range, seen that only very rarely from him. Took his goal great, looks full of confidence around the box at the moment.

Agree seems the most logical.
Against Arsenal last time at home we paired Bentaleb and Mason in midfield and Dembélé was further forward. He plays a vital role against the better sides in the league. I feel like he gives us an out at times when we need to keep it for a bit. His strength is a huge positive.

Overall I agree with Milos assessment of the Dembélé conundrum. Talented player and his attitude this season has been first class. He's won a lot of ppl over this season I think.

Love that we were actually singing he's one of our own, Mousa Dembélé he's one of our own. Funny

It was "he's one of YOUR own" in reference to him being Belgian.

He is currently playing as well as he ever has since he joined us.

3 goals in 3 matches. Most of us on here have never doubted his ability, rather just concerned that he is nowhere near as consistent as he should be, but it seems he is finally doing it consistently this season, long may it continue

This for me as well, I have never doubted his ability but until the last few games he has struggled to do it consistently. Its good to see he has added a goal threat to his game and IF he keeps it up for the rest of the season he will deserve his place in the team.

He is consistently rated highly by most people who have seen him in training, to me it's always been about his decision making.

If somehow Poch has got him focused (or he has decided to be more greedy/incisive), whatever the reason, the Dembele in this form could be a difference maker for us.

If Pochettino manages to unleash the potential within Dembele I think it's safe to say even @thfcsteff has underestimated Pochettino's brilliance ;)

Amazing what happens when there's an international tournament in the summer and the player in question also has a contract close to expiring....

It's Dembele, not Ade mate ... honestly don't think motivation was his issue ..
more about "fit for purpose"...its interesting to see if poch continues to persist with Dembele with Mason and Son and soon Bentaleb available. Levy probably has a few scenarios worked out already with glee.

What a weird thing to say

If he keeps up this form Dembele will be offered a new contract IMO

I don't know if motivation or drive or determination is the right word. Obviously from the outside any description is speculative.

But he does seem to both have the ability to dominate even the strongest players in the league physically and dominate games against very good teams whilst going missing in smaller games. We've seen him take the tinkle out of Yaya Toure, yet do nothing to impose himself against far inferior players.

It's part of his unfulfilled potential, though exactly what word to describe what is lacking I'm not sure.

Complacent?

I remember Poch earlier in the season saying we need to find Dembele the correct role in the team/the right role for him (something along those lines), to me that came across like he had the same kind of view as most if us - that Dembele hasn't quite been the player for us that he is capable of being - now we've already seen this season that when Poch sees a problem that needs fixing, it gets fixed (lack of pace in the attacking positions, defense leaking goals, midfield not offering enough protection to the defense) so with that in mind hopefully Dembele's improvement is for good

Think he got tired last 20 minutes, not a shock that, the amount of football we have played this week. Actually think if we had an extra days rest we would have beaten Arsenal.

Not his biggest fan but he's been excellent recently and this is by far his best spell since joining Spurs
