Mousa Dembele

Milo and Parklane must concede that he deserves his place in the team now? On this season's performances he's thoroughly deserved his place. Unstoppable at times

The facts speak for themselves. He went off against Anderlecht in the previous EL game, we conceded. Exactly the same happened against Villa. Tonight he comes on at 1-1 and scores a blinder to win the match. It can't all be coincidence?

We all hope there is more to come from him. Most will believe now. A hatrick Sunday would do...

I thought Mason was excellent today, I felt that Dembele should have replaced Alli before he came on. Anyway the manager has some very good midfield options.

He took his goal well tonight and he is in a rich run of goalscoring form. I would start him on Sunday in place of Alli but he would still be the player who has the weakest grip on a starting place out of the thee behind Kane for me. I would expect Son to edge him out over the next few weeks but that does not mean that I do not see a place for him in the squad and do not want to see him get game time.

Interestingly, he did not do much to arrest Anderlecht coming back into the game tonight and we certainly did not see him holding onto the ball and relieving pressure on us. Which I think undermines some of the claims about Villa coming back into the game on Monday as a result of him coming off.

As I said earlier in the week. I think that people are talking themselves into a corner on Dembele and becoming more and more entrenched in their positions. Dembele is a good player, in a rich run of form but if you listen to some of his more vocal supporters on here, you'd think he was Messi.

I'd be overjoyed with that.

Becoming an important part of the first team again. Almost forgotten a couple of months ago with Dier, Alli and Mason but he is key for us and hope he stays fit.

Don't think anyone is saying he's Messi. Just to judge him on his performances this season - which have all been top notch. A little tenuous saying he didn't arrest them coming back into the game - he scored the winning goal! His first touch after coming on was to pirouette with the ball, and pass out.

We can't expect Demebele to score every game, but he has a much higher ceiling than many were giving him credit. He can keep this going. Baby steps forward...

I am rating him on his performances this season which I think have been good.

The claim on Monday was that if he had stayed on the pitch he would have received the ball to feet and held onto it. As a result the pressure from Villa would not have happened. Him coming on tonight did not result it that happening.

The other claim has been that he draws in players and this creates space for others to profit. I have asked for examples of goalscoring chances that have come from a passage of play where this has happened. So far we have only had one example and that does not fully meet what we are being told to expect.

This is not to criticise Dembele. He is an effective player for us this season and when fit, I would always look to have him in the squad.

That goal was magic, and it comes down to Dembe having confidence again. He was a bit lost in Pochs system last season I thought, couldnt find his place and what to do.
But even if the goals finally are coming now, I actually think he did quite well before he got injured as well.
But that goal?
My missus nearly punched me for waking up the kids, but then she saw why I just HAD to scream. I even got a little smile then ;)

He is currently playing as well as he ever has since he joined us.

3 goals in 3 matches. Most of us on here have never doubted his ability, rather just concerned that he is nowhere near as consistent as he should be, but it seems he is finally doing it consistently this season, long may it continue

Indeed; it's a really big positive reflection on Poch and his coaching...imagine if he scores for a 4th seuccessive game and gets another winner?

I know most of us were wowed by his goal this evening but to tell you the truth I preferred the one on Monday against Villa more. I think any player in the league can score a goal like that if they hit the ball just right, but I think fewer against Villa players have both the physical and mental strength to stay on their feet to score that goal. The easy option is always to go down and hope for a penalty

A lot of that may be true, but we NEEDED the goal tonight a hell of a lot more. Cometh the hour, cometh The Moose!!

A midfield of Mason, Alli and Dier would get killed against Arsenal on Sunday. Dembele has to start next to Dier.

I can't see it. Mason must be favourite to start alongside Dier and Dembele will play as one of the three behind Kane.

Agree seems the most logical.
Against Arsenal last time at home we paired Bentaleb and Mason in midfield and Dembélé was further forward. He plays a vital role against the better sides in the league. I feel like he gives us an out at times when we need to keep it for a bit. His strength is a huge positive.

Overall I agree with Milos assessment of the Dembélé conundrum. Talented player and his attitude this season has been first class. He's won a lot of ppl over this season I think.

Love that we were actually singing he's one of our own, Mousa Dembélé he's one of our own. Funny
