Mousa Dembele

Not his biggest fan but he's been excellent recently and this is by far his best spell since joining Spurs
He was very good, mate, in his first season alongside Sandro. We didn't lose many games with those two locking up the midfield. It's just that he has got even better. Incidentally I watched this game with my Gooners brother-in-law who was most impressed with Dembele. He dominated their midfield for long periods today. I think it is great we have so manly options in midfield and I hope he signs a new contract.

Another fantastic display from Dembele, a few misplaced cases today, but still commands the ball so well, great tackle, drives with the ball brilliantly... Love him! Always rated him, but now he's delivering, like Lamela I guess. Absolute first teamer. Pleased he was dropped to the middle 2 early in the match too, think Dier and Dembele are our strongest midield combo when everyone's fit!

I know you are not a fan but I have been impressed with Mason too when he has played. But agree with your sentiments over Dembele, can't believe there were fans who wanted him sold.

Maybe as a squad player I'll like Mason more, I guess I just felt he didn't quite offer enough as our main midfielder. And alongside Dier maybe it'll be a new more attacking threat Mason!

It might seem rash after 3-4 games of improved performance but a new contract is a must imo. The trio of Alli-Dembele-Dier looks absolutely solid in all aspects.

I think Poch has got into his head and is finally convincing him he can be the player his skill really demands.

MOTM today and what a beast.
He has been excellent this year in CM, 10 and off the right.
It seems he has turned a huge corner.

The popular opinion on here has been he needs to be shown the door. I wonder if these guys who love to give opinions on players admit they also need some humble pie

I have admitted that he has been excellent this season. Previously, I wasn't as enamoured by him, it wasn't that I didn't think that he had ability, it's just that he had repeatedly failed to deliver. Dembele had regularly ran with the ball in to virtual cul de sacs and then lost possession. Now, he works hard for the ball, he uses his strength in challenges & he has shown an end product. Right now, I'm very happy that he has proved me wrong in thinking that he can't deliver for us, even if he has proved me right in showing the ability that I knew he had.

He's being coached properly and it shows. He always had the talent. I also think that he is fitter than he has been for a long time and that makes a big difference.

I think the general theme has always been - when he's at his best he's very much a player worth a place in our squad/team but when he's off form he's ineffective and can be quite detremintal to how we play (quick passing and all that) his problem has always been consistency and being a bit of an enigma in terms of what role suits him best - this season he seems to have been consustent and effective in a role which seems to get the best out him, do that over the course of the season and im sure everyone will want him signing a new contract, maybe even Gutterboy

I've tried to stay away from this thread since Tuesday, to poor effect admittedly! But I think people are putting dembele's performances down too much prior to this period. He's been fantastic all 2015 apart from one half v west ham. Before that he had a bad time, but under avb he and Sandro were great! His good performances far out weigh his bad performances for us IMO.

I just find him such a huge asset for us, a proper gun!

That trio just might be as good as any midfield in the premier league pretty soon IMO

Whenever he gets the ball I actually look forward to watching people trying to tackle him and get it off him. It's funny sometimes how much he runs rings around players...:D

What I can't work out is how he beats so many people with effectively the same move. It's mad, he does the same drop of the shoulder and move every time yet no one can read it. It still catches me out even when I'm watching for him to do it.

i know i remember when dumitrescu used to do it and soon got caught out after 5 games.

Dembele has unbelievable strength and just gets to the space before most and remains strong shielding the ball.

I also think his first yard is really quick and can change direction very quickly .. same move left or right

They can read it but they physically can get to the ball because of how he shields it and they can't force him onto the back foot in the dribble because of his strength

I've been critical in the past, but he now looks like he's moving the ball quickly in the right areas, which makes him look 10 times the player. Past few performances have been excellent.

tickle my balls with a feather, I think a lot of fans ( me included) thought he had the talent and ability but for whatever reason he rarely showed it on a consistent basis. This season he has managed to channel it into more then a couple of games and IF he keeps it up then we have a very good player.
