Morgan Gibbs-White

The owner is an emotional asshat

Forest is obviously trying to save face

Everything says stupid idea from Forrest

Yeah I always find it so funny how the various joirnos in football media are just transparently acting on behalf of the people they have relationships with when it comes to things like this.

Also makes me laugh when Romano tweets something like ‘the club sort of likes this player, but also appreciates Player Y and Player Z’ which is just another extension of the negotiation playing out right in front of us in a very obvious way.

The article said they were preparing the legal paperwork to file with the PL.

No chance they are going to take us to court over this. They’d realistically have to do the same to the MGW’s agency for leaking the info to us which they aren’t going to do.

This is why you keep emotional tacos away from business decisions

- They put a release clause in contract, it's been triggered, you may not like it but you take the hit and move on

Instead what? the fudging player will never play for you again, as most people have said, best case scenario is a fine (against who?) and now every Forest player is going wtf? every potential Forest player is going, do I need to steer clear of that brick?

Perhaps if MGW wants to join us he should just say to Forest if you don't honour the release clause that's breach of contract and I'll walk for free, bang goes your 60m
They will want him (IMO) to waive his share of the sales fee
They will argue he instigated the move

Truth is no one knows the ins and outs, forest look like they have had their pants down and their owner is probably just trying to save face or hawk him to other clubs to increase the fee
How do you increase a release clause?

You don’t. You accept the highest offer above the release clause
Technically you have to accept the first offer equal to or greater than as any bid after that is not against the release clause because that has already been met and doesn't exist anymore.

Nobody will offer more than the release clause, why would they?

I guess the idea is that if the clause is truly secret, the selling club might actually get a bid higher than the release clause number.

This whole thing is just dumb. if buying clubs ask agents all the time what they think a bid would need to be, there's a very easy way to get around this 'secret' clause aspect.

If Spurs say 'what's it gonna take to get MGW in your view?' and CAA say 'I cannot answer that question', they are not breaking any rules but they are tipping off Spurs that there is probably a clause. CAA can't be compelled to give a silly / high number, so they can just answer in a way that breaks no rules from any contract.

I guess there's a chance, if this clause really was supposed to be secret (which is dumb), that CAA didn't handle it cutely enough. But it's just a completely unenforceable nonsense.

They will never be able to prove it. Never. He has the same agency as some of our players. It's silliness. We looked at him a year ago. Our interest is known. I think this is a PR stunt on Forest's part and also possibly a way to try and bleed a few extra quid out of it. The worst for Forest would be to drag this to the deadline as they would have a disgruntled player in their ranks. I think it will get done in the next 7 days personally.

Marinakis might not like Postecoglou speaking of his father’s love for AEK, what with him owning their cross town rivals Olympiacos.

It's funny hearing Ange speak Greek. He comes across completely different to when he speaks English.

And I don't think Marinakis will be too fussed about him speaking of AEK. Their main rivals are Panathinaikos. No one has any beef with AEK.

Forest has a very clear recent history of publicly whining about all sorts of things (eg Refs/VAR, Palace European place) and this is no different. Their owner had a hissy fit at Nuno on the field towards the end of last season (which was then hilariously denied). He’s clearly a highly excitable and overly-emotional man. Add to this the fact that he’s a billionaire who’s entirely used to getting his own way and you end up with situations like this. My suspicion is that he’s frustrated and irritated that Spurs has taken a player that he doesn’t want to sell and so he’s throwing his toys out of the pram. If he ends up stopping the sale he’ll be cutting off his nose to spite his face and could end up losing the player for free.

The fee won't be increased, they have to accept any bid of 60m or over. After that it's up to Gibbs-White to decide on who he wants to join. There's nothing Forest can do to extract extra cash out of the deal.
