Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

:)

I actually hope we sign more Croatians despite all of this. On the pitch they tend to deliver, most of them seem to work very hard and most of them are very good on the ball as well.

I would rather have players that do the business on the pitch then get angry when they don't get to play or don't get the dream move they feel they deserve than have someone who's not good enough on the pitch.

To be honest, I can't think of a single player in the Croatian league who would even come close to making it in England. Mentality is all well and good but talent has to count for something too.

Dinamo had a golden generation but this is over. Now they're reduced to signing Hajduk's rejects, just to tinkle off their main 'rivals'. Mandzukic was probably the last talented player at Maksimir. What's left is a bunch of cloggers who flatter to deceive. Badelj was meant for great things but he never really delivered. Sammir was supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread but he never reached that next level either.

Hajduk's Vukusic is supposed to be a promising player but I'm not sure he has what it takes to make it elsewhere.

It's also worth to remember that it took Kranjcar and Modric almost a year to adapt to the English game. So that's hardly a quick-fix solution. Also, a lot of Croatian players tend to over perform when they play with the national side. At least, they used to... see Pletikosa, for instance.

I still like Rakitic, though.

I don't follow the Croatian league at all so I have no clue.

I thought Kovacic was supposed to be one of the hottest talents in Europe though.

Every season Madrid have one marquee signing, this season the only player they have seriously been in for has been Modric. If they do not sign him anyone else they go for will be seen as a substitute and big club Real Madrid would have lost some face, so as much as they play hard ball they need to close this deal. I do not doubt Levy will get the money he wants but I do not worry that if goes on till the last day of the transfer window Porto getting a replacement becomes harder

Nobody does, I'm afraid :) and you can't really blame them.

I wasn't having a go at all, by the way, just venting my feelings about a very poor league and some players being bigged up by the media or by that clown Mamic. Wouldn't take a chance on Kovacic myself, unless it's very long term. He never impressed me but a) I'm biased when it comes to Dinamo and b) it wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong about a player.

I do wish people would stop attacking people on the basis of their nationality. I see Gio being described this morning as a Mexican so-and-so, and Niko/Modric as a Croatian such-and-such. But their behaviour is nothing at all to do with where they're from and it gets insulting to Spurs fans from Croatia or Mexico when this stuff is peddled. Ok, that might only be about 6 dudes, but nonetheless.

Just seen Krancjar's quotes. Tell us how you really feel Niko! Not many players leave Tottenham and have nice things to say about us after do they? Except Freund and Klinsmann.

Dynamo Kiev is one of the biggest clubs in Europe, they have won more than 50 cups and titles combined and are playing CL almost every season

Sounds a lot like Rangers... Oooooops, hold on...

Except they average 35k more per game than kiev!

I've actually nothing against Kiev, but qualifying for the CL each year out of the Ukrainian league is no more impressive than Rangers/Celtic qualifying.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas claims no further bids have been lodged for Luka Modric, with the club holding out for their asking price.

Real Madrid have been strongly linked with the Croatian playmaker, and he is understood to be keen on completing a switch to the Spanish capital.

Modric has not joined Spurs on their pre-season tour of the United States and is training back in London as his future remains up in the air.

Tottenham will not stand in the way of a player that wants to move on, with it important that those on their books are fully committed to the cause.

They are, however, prepared to stand firm on their valuation and will not part with Modric for less than they believe he is worth.

Talent

As that figure is yet to be met, the highly-rated 26-year-old remains on the books at White Hart Lane.

"There is no news at the moment," said Villas-Boas.

"The player is training in London. There have been no further bids, no improved bids. The value hasn't been met for what we think is correct.

"We have a big squad and we are fielded in most of the positions, so we just have to wait and see how that deal goes or doesn't go.

"If the player eventually stays, he is a player of fantastic talent for us and will certainly add to our squad."

I'm beginning to think there is a slim chance we may have Modric playing for us next season. Even though he has been a dingdong he's still the best midfielder at the club.

Poor old Niko ([-X) is not the first, nor will he be the last to make a parting shot to a previous employer; I guess we'd call it:

Jose Mourinho has made a personal plea to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to let Luka Modric join Real Madrid.

The Special One has rung Levy to try and make peace after Spurs got tough with Modric after the Croatian midfielder went AWOL.

Modric has since apologised to Levy and Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and has also returned to training even though he will not be joining up on the club’s US tour.

But Levy, renowned for being a hard negotiator, has raised the stakes by insisting they will hold out for £40m, will not let Modric go without a fight and has even threatened to hold him to another year.

Modric has told friends that he is angry because Tottenham had promised to let him go this summer after refusing to sell him to Chelsea last year.

Relations in the deal are at breaking point but Mourinho has now tried to take the initiative with Levy as the ex-Chelsea boss wants Modric in place by the time Real Madrid play LA Galaxy in the US next Thursday.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists the Spanish giants will not pay more than £27m and Paris Saint Germain have complicated matters by coming in with an offer of up to £40m.

Perez also wants to sell Brazilian superstar Kaka to help fund the Modric deal and it has left an uncomfortable stand-off between the clubs.

But Mourinho, who knows Levy personally, hopes his intervention can help charm Spurs into allowing Modric to move to the Bernabeu.

Lyon keeper Hugo Lloris, France’s captain, has texted William Gallas and Younes Kaboul to try and check to see if Spurs are interested in a deal.

Lloris will hold talks with Lyon this weekend to discuss his future with the French club wanting £16m.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas is looking for a new left back as cover for Benoit Assou-Ekotto as he has doubts about his defensive abilities

Hahahahahaha so much crap in this its unreal
