Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

And it works because the average Joe has been brainwashed into thinking he wants to see Real/Barca/Milan/Juve/Chelsea/United/Bayern play each other every season. It's no longer exotic and exciting, it's boring.

Couldn't agree more. I'm even surprised the ratings for CL games are so high.

What makes it even more boring is that the earlier games are usually one-sided affairs because of the financial gap between the clubs. Long gone are the days when a team like Red Star could win a European competition.

Said it before, the way to fix a lot of the problems in football (money/FPPetc.) is not that hard.

CL Football should go to the League and Cup Winners (take it back to a Cup Winners Cup Format)
- Since even in leagues that have two big teams, 1 very rarely will win the title more than 2-3 times in a row, it limits the ability for a club to get 10 years strait of CL money (creating that fiscal gap)
- It rejuvenates interest in domestic cups as there is a real reward associated with it now
- It fixes the what happens to CL/Europa Cup winners issue

FPP should be very simple as well, Expenses (specially around buys/wages) should not exceeed a certain % of income
- Income should be Gate reciepts +tv rights, nothing else (to prevent brick like our chairman's cousing buying a million kits, or sponsoring)

Fact is, none of the powers that be want to fix football or make it any less predictable

So much arrogance here, despite Tottenham having mediocre results in the last 20 years.

You people form your opinions as if the only good football ever was played in England...

Not in the slightest, but Russian football has never been any good up until the last half century and Ukrainian never. To judge a league as competitive and of any worth, there has to be strength in depth, not a lot of chaff offering up cricket scores. SPL = complete dross, ditto Ukraine.

I m not beating Spurs with a stick,nor am I hyping Kiev.

I just dont like what an arrogant view people here have towards big clubs in smaller countries, just because they dont have such a tough league(due to financial reasons).People keep bashing Rangers, but they have played the Europa League final just a few seasons ago.It was a fantastic achievement for us to beat Chelsea in the Carling cup,an Europa League win would be amazing.
Absolute tosh, Rangers are a massive part of the problem with Scottish football, stealing all the talent in the region and failing to develop it properly and supplementing their ranks with third rate Europeans, instead of developing a proper academy. And that's without getting onto the way the club has been run into the ground. I've no sorrow for the state of Scottish football, they have as much opportunity as anyone else to develop a more profitable league but it needs to start with actually developing Scottish youth properly

Dynamo Kiev have a place in football history. Their coaches in the 60s and 70s - Maslov and Lobanovskyi - invented the pressing game. Their contributions to the concept of team football are up their with Rowe and Michels. By team football I mean how they played the game within a formation rather than the shape of the formation.

Rangers got to the Europa final by boring teams to death just like Chelsea do but nevertheless.

We would be in the CL most years if we played in the Ukrainian league, in fact probably every year.

But if we played in the Ukrainian league we wouldn't have massive income from tv rights and couldn't attract the same players we do now.

I'm just saying that if you compare our squad to the best squads in Ukraine, I'm sure we'd be at least as good as them.

Surely if we can finish top 4 in the premier league which is the second best league in the world after La Liga, then would match that achievement in the Scottish/Ukraine league.

Croatian press reporting Luka to Madrid to be confirmed tomorrow for €44.7m(£35m).

I give them a 1% chance of being right.

Could the saga finally be over? Zagreb's director of football Zoran Mamić has said Modric has gone for £35m and Dinamo get 2.5

We have a player that wants to be here at least. Can't see Levy doing those two deals and be left with nothing though.

We'd be selling a player no where near worth £34m and will be buying a player who is no where near worth what we'd sign him for. I see no problem
