Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

but what do we want, 28 mill from Madrid or 40 mill from Chelsea or Man U??

They don't really NEED him, it's more like they see an opportunity to get before him someone else does.

And what exactly does it mean when you say "My head isn't right".

I'll provide two options, there are tons more.

"All this transfer speculation has left me mentally exhausted. I feel it would be better for the team that I sat this game out."

"I refuse to play. I want to join Chelsea."

Nasri managed to play for Arsenal last season before he was sold despite getting coated by the Arsenal fans. Why couldn't Modric manage it?

A transfer request does nothing for Modric except lose his cut of the fee and risk Levy pulling the plug on the entire deal.

Provide quotes and i'll accept he's on strike. Currently it's media speculation.

Mate, you've got to read between the lines. We don't have the full and complete facts from the Berbatov fiasco 4 years ago, I mean you had quotes from various players and coaches at the club, but none of it can be proves, but I think it's fair to say we can all deduce what happened there. A footballer says my head isn't right coincidentally around the time that he is forcing a move, that says to me that he either doesn't want to play and risk getting injured which jeopardises the move, or he is trying to force the club's hand into selling him.

The facts are, Modric didn't go with the rest of the squad on the plane to America. And this happens AGAIN around the same time he is being linked with a move to another club. Coincidence?

The problem with 28 mill pounds is that we have to pay a percentage of the fee to Modric's former club

This was new to me in the Marca report I saw earlier today, which had the Zagreb president (?) saying they had a 5% cut. It also said his son is one of Modric's agents.

The original deal for Modric was €21m which was around £16.5m at the time. It was announced to the stock exchange as a €21m deal to be paid over the next four years. The costs of such transactions had to be stated and there was no mention of a sell-on fee. As an aside, I'd add that changes in the exchange rate mean his real cost was closer to £18m.

Regardless. £28m is an insult and there is no way we could get like quality for that money.

like i said earlier, there is as much chance that the deal to Madrid is happening soon so the Club have let him skip the tour so he can sort out whatever it is a player about to move to another country has to sort out, as there is that he has 'gone on strike'

it just depends on what angle you as a supporter want to take

This. If i was AVB and Modric was gunning for a move i would want him no-where near the rest of my squad. Therefore i would leave him behind.

Surely the club would have made it known that they excuse him for not going on the tour then?

The FA/FIFA have got to get a grip when it comes to players refusing to play. After all, they are paid handsomely to play not just to train. They need to make it a rule that if a player is passed fit and refuses to play, then the club have the right to not pay the player for a certain period of time, either a week or a month's wages, or perhaps longer.

Yes, because even if your supposition were true - which I highly doubt not to be - then how does it benefit the squad if they're not able to train with a player who may, come September 1st, still be expected to play with Spurs?

You have to remember here, that it's Modric who is pushing for this transfer - not Tottenham, or Villas-Boas; he's the instigator, yet his behaviour is unnecessarily complicating our preparations for the coming season.

He should be professional about this; train with the squad and fulfil your contractual obligations: if a transfer materialises, then so be it, but at least you're upheld your side of the bargain. But acting in the current way is selfish, ignorant and childish; he's trying to force our hand, compromising our position of strength which weakens our negotiating stance.

And some of you actually wish to defend him?

fudging hell.

They wouldn't defend it if it was Hossam Ghaly.
