Modric - No Longer A Spurs Player

the quote 'his head wasn't right' probably means that he wasn't deemed in the right frame of mind to play. Can't really spell it out clearer then that.

That is a weak excuse to not play. It's not like he lost a family member. It's not like he was involved in some serious trauma. He didn't want to play because he didn't want to jeopardise his move.

Why would a club like Chelsea or Madrid want to buy him if he is this mentally weak?

You obviously haven't played much sport. If you had you'd know that sometimes your just not in the right frame of mind to play.

'Arry said he made the final call, but he could have been protecting the player. He was playing the good cop to Levy's bad cop. I've noticed that quite a few posters here don't take everything 'Arry says as solid evidence.

Anyway, do people really think when a player says their head is not quite right that they are really suffering from mental exhaustion? Its not as if the player is locked in a room for ten hours a day with an army of lawyers discussing the fine details of the move. We all know its code for refusing to play when part of a transfer demand.

He did make the final decision, yet I've not ever been able to figure out to who's benefit. He certainly wasn't protecting the player IMHO; he actually did the opposite and said things such as 'I'd be lying if I said his head hadn't been turned'...I always believed that he and Luka had a special bond, but when H actively tried to undo a summer's worth of "no" by suddenly going public with the thought that maybe we should sell him for 40 mill (again, in the last week of August) I found myself no longer able to believe that. I've always maintained that Levy asked H and staff whether Modric was the sort of player who would never perform again were we to hold him to his contract for last season; they would've said he is not that sort of lad, Levy thus held firm, and after the agent fanned flames, we ended up seeing a player who played superbly last season (albeit a few more goals would've been nice) but no-one can knock his performances. I believe we will sell him if the terms meet what Levy has always asked, but if the terms aren't met, then he'll be here for sure. Levy won't sell him on the cheap.

I think that Madrid is Levy`s prefered destination for Modric, the money will be agreed imo, another month of this will drive me bonkers!

Absolutely. There is a small cordial history between Madrid board and Levy, my belief is that AVB has a player he wants in return plus cash, but time will tell...there are too many "colleagues" for this deal not to happen IMHO.

Surely the club would have made it known that they excuse him for not going on the tour then?

i wouldn't expect the Club to comment on it one way or the other, it would serve no purpose. what if it isn't finalized and and by stating he isn't going the purchasing club decide to fudge around with the fee ? for example

there are any number of reasons for him not going to The States and being on strike is just one of them. some people just seem to be quick to jump on his back with little or no evidence to back it up. maybe he is on strike, but until there is some proof im not going to start worrying about it

I have actually. If I want to leave my job for another, I still turn up to my current job until I get another job.

So are you in favour of players not wanting to play to try and force a move then?

If he wasn't one of our best players, no doubt people wouldn't be defending him.

Of course there are times when you are not in the right frame of mind. Bereavment in the family for example. Not wanting to play because it might jeopardise a move isn't a valid excuse. But each to their own.

Your job is irrelevant in this though, because it's nowhere near similar to a footballers job.

If there was any proof he wasn't on strike people wouldn't be 'defending' him..

I've not said i'm in favour of players not wanting to play to force a move, not sure where you've plucked that from..

Well because that is what he is doing. Isn't a funny that this type of situation has happened twice during a period when the transfer window is open? Doesn't seem to pull this kind of stunt when the window is closed.

Like I said before, we will never have the all of the facts when it comes to any player leaving a club, but the best we can do is read between the lines. I just believe that you are being a bit naive if you don't think that Modric is up to something and isn't trying to force the club to sell him. We'll just have to agree to disagree.

I think you are being a bit naive by assuming things that you have very little proof of. You can read between the lines yes, but then do not try to argue it as fact, because it is not.

I have never said it was a fact. I just think it's more logical and believable than the line you and little luka are coming up with.

if not playing against Man Utd/City in the league last season didn't convince Levy to sell him i don't think skipping a tur of the US is going to hold much sway ! :D

Believable?

The line me and little luka have come up with is that we don't know what is actually going on, so people should stop making rash statements. I'm not sure what is unbelievable about that.

Really hope we're close to agreeing terms with Real Madrid because it's clear he doesn't want to be with us. It's dragging on now.
