Micky van de Ven

It's because he didn't make a genuine attempt for the ball so you can get the double punishment. Which does make a bit of mockery of Romero's recent sending off as his was a genuine attempt for the ball, a ball he even got to first. Yet he was still sent off.
Yeah, I get it's the rules, although this kind of holding happens at every corner in every PL game, and is extremely rarely punished.

I just think it’s a double punishment, as surely a penalty should be enough compensation for the denied goalscoring opportunity - if the foul isn't a red card foul in itself.

I think it is fair with a red if the opponent is denied a clear goalscoring opportunity, but outside the box, so it's just a free kick.

Meanwhile the Woolwich Wanderers are yet concede a penalty or have a player sent off despite perpetrating multiple acts of GBH this season! Hopefully if our Micky moves this summer he don’t end up there though!

Thankfully the refs in Europe are a tad more forgiving of our Belgians…

Someone made the comparison to Vertonghen under AVB (last few months) and Sherwood, I think that’s quite accurate. Something’s clearly not clicking for him at the moment, mentally. Doesn’t mean that under a new regime he won’t come back to life again like we saw with JV.

Apparently, he gave an interview somewhere saying he won't give the usual speech about the need to work together, regroup, etc and that he's having a hard time coping with the situation.

That's where you need to draw the line, I think.

As a human being, nothing, not even such a horrible event as being relegated, is worth playing with someone's (mental, in this case) health. For that, he deserves to be left alone and given some space. You never know what's going on behind the scenes and how tough some situations can be for people.

As a professional, he needs to be exfiltrated as quickly as possible, regardless of his ability. In a group and in the middle of a crisis, you can't afford to have someone lose their nerves so blatantly, because it's infectious. Give him some time off, send him home, whatever, but you can't have someone panicking when the situation is already that bad.

I just read a few quotes, but they really didn't look good at all. There's no shame in not being to handle a tough situation. Nobody knows how they would fare in his stead. But if the quotes are anything to go by, we need to remove him from the group. I'd rather play a youngster with zero experience but a stronger mindset than carry on with him, judging on that.
