Micky van de Ven

So he is shocking at everything a decent CB should be good at? šŸ˜‚ sums us up really.
He is good at reactionary defending
He is also good at moving with the ball
Both are positive things in the right team
He is woeful psychically for a guy of his size
And he isn’t good when the play is in front of him
Whoever buys him will see all of that quickly

Whats become evident is he is slow on the turn, really flat footed in that respect, his pace really is the leveller for him, but his position and inability to sniff out danger are a real issue. He also hates the ball in the air, dreadful with his head or anything knocked over the top near him

Micky is basically the defensive version of Timo Werner, a player blessed with headline-grabbing top speed but otherwise rather average at everything else.

A typical ENIC signing really.

šŸ˜‚ give it a rest, he can’t even get into his National team in his favoured position because they rate a City B player higher than him. The guy is shocking, Porro, Romero, Vicario and VDV are the majority of whats wrong with this team.

He was being lauded as one of the worlds best, destined to be a Gallactico not all that long ago. At that time I thought he was a bit weak in some basic defensive aspects. And now you're proclaiming him an abject failure. Do you think, possibly, the truth is inbetween?

There's no doubt we've missed Romero. He is more comfortable technically and more experienced.

Not reactionary defending in the box! Hes good at chasing down players and has an excellent recovery tackle, but reading the play and anticipating isn't a strength of his.

So the conclusion is that VDV is great at a couple of things but isn't world class at anything. However, with one continuous coach he could iron out a lot of cracks in his game and become a really good defender in the second half of his twenties. I hope he finds that and has the world class attitude that it needs to step up those important parts of his game.
