Mauricio Pochettino

He did a huge amount of good.

The football for the last year of his time here was largely dogbrick, though, and he was moaning to the press almost as much as Conte in the months leading up to his sacking (perhaps with more reason).

Let’s not re-write history.
Who wouldn't moan after all what he did, and got nothing back in terms of rebuilding the team. I'd be livid!

Pool had those friendlies and also trained in warm weather. We missed a trick there by some way

when Poch was sacked he had won 3 league games in 12
We were 14th, 11 points behind 4th place

So are you saying you think was the right move to sack him?

And sorry, I think you're wrong, he was absolutely looking to play 4-3-3. Fitness of LoCelso and N'dombele forced him to persist with a 4-4-2 'diamond' type shape, but he was very curious about it.

No
I think he earned more time
But I really think the players we had would work in a 4-3-3
If that was his plan why did he never play it?

I also think they really saw Ndombelly as the CM that recycled the ball ala Dembele and Lo Celso as one for the three behign the striker. Issues there were Lo Celso rarely fit and Ndombele as we saw post Poch....no engine for the role

yep
Lo celso in the 10
Tanguy as an 8

I felt he eventually wanted a GLC/Skipp/Ndombele 3 in the middle...

Did he ever use Skipp? I felt he should have delved into the youth team when we didn't buy anyone, and brought through the likes of Skipp and Tanganga, like when he started at Spurs, but from memory he didn't?

He loved Skipp, talked him up, and had him as part of the CL Final squad. He was in there group photo. Remember that one where he insisted that the squad be in the final photo and not just the starting 11?

Where would dele have played? On the right?

I think we'd have seen Son Kane Dele, but with Dele drifting in more off the shoulder. That's just a guess obviously. Dynamically, if he had two FBs as strong as Walker and Rose had been (or even Trippier and Rose), I think that it could've worked...obviously this is fun pub talk ;-)

Walker had gone by then so would have to be trippier. Maybe it could have worked. We'll never know.

I was saying 'if he had two FBs as strong as' those players. He'd have needed new ones. Part of the rebuild. As you say, we'll never know mate...

if he comes in, did what he did when he first came, we might have a chance. I look to Napoli and the scum as current models - we already have some very exciting talent, Udogie coming in next season, experienced players and we'll lose lenglet, n'dombele comes back (we need to sell or terminate his contract) but I think poch and paractici could work well, if the Italian decides to stick around

But for me, key is Central Defense. I like Dier, but we need someone much better

We have so many good pieces, we just need a little tweaking here and there.

What Poch would bring is getting the toxicity off the table, people so easily like to jump on the Spurs/bottlers flimflam, but my opinion is you make any job so much harder when you don't have everyone on board, fans/players/owners. That is why the Juande/Jose/Conte thing didn't work, not because of money/backing but from the first day each of them created their own kinds of divisions, calling out players/fans, creating tension with owners, etc. Poch would not have that issue, and no matter what people like to make out, clearly a lot of mutual like/respect between him and Levy.

He needs a DoF though, I don't trust him to pick (to buy) players.

In that model, two players -> top level CB and creative midfielder would make a huge difference to this squad, and in a long term Hugo replacement and probably one more CB to strengthen the squad, bring back Gil, Udogie and Spence to evaluate and you have a team that should absolutely challenge for top 4 next season.

Okay he has won a few games here and there. His English has improved a bit. He occasionally shows a bit of passion. So, why can't he grasp that footy is two halves? It ain't rocket science. Just start and finish strong, it ain't as exciting but it keeps people healthy.
Just thought I'd have a look back on this thread.

From 2019. Hmmmmm....
