Mauricio Pochettino - Sacked

i agree it's completely sustainable, but you can't raise your starion by doing that, it's not going to upset the established order

as well as Leicester have done this season I can't see them consistently being title challengers for the next decade

Is there a better way?

51 and it is the strongest team in my time, in the past we had some good players but we always seemed to rely on the good players playing well. Now we are a team.

I am a bit older then you mate but I agree with the bolded bit, most of my time watching Spurs it has nearly always been about the better players carrying the lesser ones. Now we have a side full of hard workers who play for each other and we are in the true sense of the word a TEAM.

Is there a better way?

a better way of what, being a mega successful club winning European Cups and titles or being one thats self sustaining through financial prudence and effective recruitment

I don't think both are currently possible

@galeforce Is there a better way to break through the mega clubs? As things stand Leicester and Spurs top the division, teams who have not spent a lot on transfer to build their current squads. Take out Son and Lamela, who are not always in the first team, and how much has our team been assembled for?

At least you won't have any applause to forget.

You can't wait till we go through a small rough patch? I.e. lose a few games.
You can't wait for Spurs to lose some games just so you can see fellow fans you disagree with proved wrong?

Wow. Your world is a sad one

Lol all of that from one post. You sir are a genius.

I was making a sarcastic point. Sad world.

Plus you used the word "wow" ...

Speak for yourself! :p

We've had a couple of bumps in the two home losses and bounced back brilliantly. No hangover, no loss of confidence, just stuck to the plan.

If we got on Poch's back or the team's back after the season we're having then we wouldn't bloody deserve either of them.

I'd hope that Poch has enough credit in the bank of goodwill that we could all see past a blip.
completely agree it's just fans are so fickle. Remember the reverse fixture at Watford .... some postings were laughable mid way through the game

Yes, I think it is a little harsh to persecute the pessimists after the past 5/20/55 years.

That little voice has been pushed right to the back of my mind, but no doubt it is still there. I'm sure its there for most people on here too, and I would be interested to see if they can keep it out of the forefront of their mind should we lose a couple of games on the bounce.

Lest we forget, this board was in utter meltdown after Leicester.

Been following this team for 35 years for my sins ... Been on this forum from the days prior to scottishspur lol.

Best feeling at spurs for a good awful long time. A few hiccups will occur its up to us fans too, to push and carry the team forward.

I just know the first real hiccup, as in two games without a convincing win, will result in meltdown and calls for poch out etc.

My comment was cynical but you know its true

I think long term, to consistently be up with them, you have to spend like them, look at the perfect storm that been required for us and Leicester to be in this position, 4 of the 5 top clubs being in disarray and the 5th just doing what they always do

Sad but true.

Meltdown and depression yes....calls for Poch out? No way. The guy is a miracle worker - or at least an outstanding manager- so I can't see any Spurs fan wanting to see the back of Poch after a couple of defeats. Fact is our football is starting to be seriously good to watch...

Another good set of subs again yesterday.

We set off great in the 2nd half, but still couldnt breakthrough. He made the sub early, bang, Alli sets up the winner.
Son on, again, earlier than later, for me made a great impact and gave Watford something different to think about, very very unlucky not to wrap the game up.
Even the Carroll sub was good in my eyes. They were getting up a head of steam and I assume made the change to break up their rhythm.

Well done that man again

His proactive subs are one of the best things he does, he is a top top man

He has improved this lately, but his hesitancy to make substitutions until the late stages of some games (especially when competing in multiple competitions with another game a few days later) has been possibly my only frustration with Poch thus far. Would generally like to see the first sub made around the 60 minute mark, the second around the 70 minute mark, and the final one from 80-85 minutes. I would guess his average is a lot later this season, but as I said, it's getting better recently...

And to think we were on his case about his substitutions. Last few games he has gotten them spot on. For a manager that is learning on the job, he's not doing too shabby.

nope. we were right.
he's responded well to that string of draws we started with this season. play was way different then if your recall, too intricate and only through the centre; very few crosses; very late subs.

The difference is that now we have match fit players at a very high level on the bench. It makes a lot more sense to change it around with players like Alli, Chadli, Son and Lamela on the bench in decent or even good form. Previously this season our starting 11 was our strongest team by a much greater distance. Changing it early for a player lacking match fitness wasn't likely to change the game. Now, in part thanks to some good rotation in cup games, we have players in form on the bench ready to make an impact. Making early subs makes much more sense in that case.

Or we're just gotten better as the season has progressed. In part thanks to what was done earlier this season. We've upped our game, and so our style of play works better. But it's not a change of style from "too intricate" to "the right amount of intricate" imo.
