Kyle Walker

Re: Could Walker do a Bale?????

I'll keep this brief... NO

Bale always had the ability to beat people, even when he struggled at first. Walker wouldn't be a premier league player if not for his pace in my opinion.

Re: Could Walker do a Bale?????

Walker has already emulated Bale by getting himself a needless yellow card which means he is suspended for the first leg match against Basel.

Kyle is suffering from the ' Difficult Second Album Syndrome'. Last year he was fantastic for us, but this year he has been erratic and inconsistent. Even still he has had some good games recently (check the ratings threads) and superb moments that are often glossed over, but the witch-hunt is well and truly on. When Walker makes a last ditch tackle it because he was out of position and caused it himself, when Vertoghen does it he is the 2nd coming of the King. Vertoghen certainly is the fair hair boy at the moment figuratively and literally but I still firmly believe that Walker will grow from this season into the marauding full back we all want. People forget he's still a PL novice playing in a position that requires experience first and foremost.

Last night I thought Dembele pretty much abandoned him and he floundered. The winger and wing back are a unit that should complement and cover for each other. There was none of that last night until Lennon came on. I won't defend the freekick though (and neither did we).

My GHod some sense! I remember when Stephen Carr first started at Spurs he was so error prone that teams would target him as our weak link. By the time he left he was one of the best right backs in the country. KW is young, hungry and still learning his trade - the vitriol and exageration towards him is unbelievable. Managers such as AVB and Hodgson must see something in him. Obviously the anti walker phalanx must know more than them. I see him do good things week in week out. Yes he makes mistakes but so does BAE and Kaboul before he became a defensive GHod on here.

Just watched an IV with Walker on Football Focus. Seems a level headed guy, still just 22 and learning.
Very grateful to coaches at Sheff Utd, big Blades fan, believes in fate. Not a bad bone in Freund's body-he and AVB good combo.
He and Lennon great combo-maybe good enough for England. Mates off the field, too.
Asked about speed he mentioned that Kaboul is very fast up there with Bale and Lennon.

Indeed, so much knee jerking going on over certain players.

Spot on

I don't ever remember Carr being error prone. Certainly not to the same extent as Walker. Carr had technique, he could pass, dribble and beat his man, something Walker cannot do. Plus, Walker has consistently played in the first team for some time now. He has been an ever present. Carr took some time to establish himself in the side. Not a valid comparison at all.

He wasnt that good last season either. More hype than substance IMHO.

Certainly he was making errors last season too, although he wasn't punished for them as often as he's been this season so they weren't remembered as well. In my opinion at least.

The hype that was about his talent I think was justified, I still think he's a very talented young right back. There are areas he must improve on, but with hard work he has a lot of potential. His raw pace and strength will always be very useful as a full back.

If Carr wasn't error prone early in his career what stopped him from establishing himself into the side straight away?

Could be any number of reasons, as you well know.

Not his greatest fan but felt he should have come on somehow to give us something on the right hand side. The right sided Gareth Bale.

I think he would have if not for the forced substitutions of Dawson out (injury) and Dembele out (worn into the ground) and Sigurdsson kind of had to come off too as he offered very little.

Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Does some of the craziest things sometimes...and at the worst moments

and what was that thing with him berating holtby?

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Yeah he is a dumb fudge. We need a whole thread for that?

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

Really strange to see him going mental like that only 20 minutes in.

Did play well though but still has a habit of giving away silly free kicks.

Re: Mentally i think something might be wrong with walker

I'm his harshest critic at times, especially when it comes to his hair.. But he was our driving force in the last fifteen minutes today and really earned us the second goal.. You just have to accept the odd brain fart from him if he's going to be your starting right back :(
