Southgate will be eaten alive by the press.

If his knees are up to it they should give the job to everyone's mate H Redknapp

Anyway who gives a feck. The next tournaments are in Russia, then a hotch potch Euros shared amongst 8 or so countries, then the roadshow arrives in Qatar

Feck it

At least we know now that Gary Neville is useless at actually working with footballers. After Valencia and now England I don't think he will leave the comfy Sky studios ever again.

Same old thing, lots of footballers can talk a good game but actually putting it into practice is not as easy.

Glad someone else feels the same as i do, most of our players are way overhyped ( after all how many have a real chance of playing for the real big teams, Madrid, Barca, Munich etc) I have said it on here ( and took belters for saying it) the Prem Lge is well overhyped and so are a lot of our players. Roy will get the blame but you can only do so much with average players.
Unless you are Iceland.

If England want to take a risk and actually potentially achieve something they should take a chance on Michael O'Neill. He will be a top manager in the Premier League. But it will be Southgate based solely on his relationship with the man picking the next manager. Southgate completely failed last summer with some of the same players he will be managing. He also failed to pick Alli for the u21s! He did good in that mickey mouse competition this summer with young players who had no expectations on them. That's not the England job.

Well done Iceland, barely put a foot wrong.

No England player had much to shout about, but Rashford showed enterprise in his cameo.

Why do we think having our backs to their goal is 'attacking play' ?

what do ukraine, russia and england have in common, their whole first team play in their domestic league and not in other leagues, is it any surprise england constantly fail at international tournaments when our players don't have
that nous or experience on the continent, champions league isn't the same as the intricacies of playing in serie A or the different tempo in la liga. Love how at half time on ITV, the pundits were talking about who should play in goal for the QF, and yeh that complacency is another reason for going home early.

U21 boss should naturally step up to senior team.

He'll be following the players he's worked with, so there's continuity rather than continuous change.

Or give it to me. I'd do things differently - I won't tell you how lest someone pinches my ideas (and job)

Did anyone watch Southgate's England team at last summer's Euro under 21 tournament? Well if you didn't then you were lucky. England were shocking and didn't even make it out of the easy group.

No thanks

Aren't usually the Italians and the Spanish home based? Think it's a comfort thing.

It's also not true. Ukraine have players from five different leagues and Russia have one player from the German league and one Brazilian turned Russian.
Neustedter's contract expired on 1st of June I think. At least it was announced during euros that he leaves Shalke and 100% he will be announced as CSKA/Zenit player very soon.
Guilerme has been living in Russia, playing for Lokomotiv Moscow for many years and received Russian passport on usual beginnings. So Rock Strongo is basically right about Russia (not right about Ukraine though).

I think that argument is the wrong way around, England are not crap because the players haven't experienced football in another country, England are crap because we have crap players that are not good enough to play football in another country.

James Richardson the the Guardin podcast : "Roy Hodgson - the man who can't pronounce his Rs and doesn't know them from his elbow ".

I'd say, bar a handful, they're not good enough for the teams that pay as much as English clubs do.
