I hope this mess on top of the poor end to our season doesn't fudge our players head up. Kane I'm particularly worried about.

Seriously though, as Lee dingdongson said at half time, the England camp must've studied the tapes of Iceland playing, they should've identified who the main target men were and stuck Dier on one of them. Rooney being on that big bloke was not the right answer and Dier standing in the space was pointless. The Spurs lads on the night were poor too, Walker had a brain fart and Dier was off his game. I do think he needed a decent midfield around him, but he did get caught out on the second goal.

I'm not 100% Hodgson knew what he wanted to do going into the tournament and I sincerely doubt he spent much time thinking through the 433/4231. Watching Germany do it, you see players interchanging with one another and creating options all over the pitch, but we lacked any sort of movement for most of the game. Sturridge is never a wide midfielder and was brick all night, whilst Sterling who was having a good game got subbed. Rooney despite playing in one of the most static midfields in the league last season was asked to be our main creator.

Also Roy should watch his players at club level every now and then. If he did then he may have noticed how Kane has thrived in the inside left channel and has a good few goals from that area. He may have noticed how Kane thrives off of having creative players around him in a narrow midfield and using them and their movement to great affect. But Roy didn't so we saw Kane often on the right of the pitch with two wide men nowhere near him most of the game.

I'm very upset with English spurs players. Kane and Alli could easily/should get to the worst players squad.
 
I think England are just a proper manager, a bit of tactical sense, a bit of togetherness and a couple of decent central defenders away from being a pretty good team, to be honest. There is quality in a lot of these players, but something is missing.

Kane was poor, Alli ok. Walker, Rose, also ok today, although Walker messed up for Iceland's first. Dier also did ok. It was most of all a poor team performance that cost England. Sterling, Surfingen and Rooney were the worst englishmen, i think.
 
That list scares the brick out of me. Would rather they gave it back to Hoddle then any of those candidates.

Actually Howe would be a good shout.

Don't make the mistake of overestimating this lot just because they play well at club level surrounded by real talent.

Glad someone else feels the same as i do, most of our players are way overhyped ( after all how many have a real chance of playing for the real big teams, Madrid, Barca, Munich etc) I have said it on here ( and took belters for saying it) the Prem Lge is well overhyped and so are a lot of our players. Roy will get the blame but you can only do so much with average players.

I'm talking not only about today's game but overall about the tournament.
Kane was absolutely awful.
Alli was awful.
Rose was average in attack, ok in defence but could/should have done better with Russia's goal.
Walker was England's best player in the first two games, but regressed today and was at fault for Iceland's 1st goal (along with wooney).
Dier overall was ok, even unexpectedly scored, but I think he should have done better with Iceland's 2nd goal.

Overall I've been waiting for this Euros mainly because of England's national team. I really thought you can make a breakthrough with this young hungry squad and friendlies were very positive. And now there are more questions than answers multiplied by a very very shameful tournament exit.

Hasn't stopped Leicester or indeed Iceland.
Most of the England team are better than average but there's is no organisation. Poch would get that squad to at least semis
 
Over rated players playing in a over rated Lge, i have said it before ( and took stick for it), England have not won a game in the knock out stage of a tournament for 10 years. How many of the squad would be wanted by the real big clubs( Madrid, Barca, Munich etc) not many if any.

Sorry but i disagree England have not won a knockout game in any tournament in 10 years, even the golden generation was over rated and this squad is just as bad. Blaming the manager Sven, Capello, the bloke with the brolly ( his name escapes me at the moment) seems to happen all the time but the players are overhyped.
