Not sure having so many Spurs players for England is good for Spurs. They, especially Kane and Alli, already look tired !

Good for England, but not good for Spurs.

Also increases the chances that one of our lads will be made the media spacegoat and have that follow them around over the summer and into next season doing a job on the confidence of the player.

Hopefully Hodgson will be visibly inept enough to get stuck with most of the blame, or a player for some other team will make a high profile error.

It's times like these that make me think that most football managers really don't know more than the average football fan when it comes to choosing a team... how can anyone look at the team Hodgson put out vs Portugal and claim otherwise?

And can anyone explain to me the very specific reasons why Rooney is seen as undroppable by Roy? What does Roy will happen if he does drop him? We'll be a worse team? There'll be a media circus? Rooney will be upset? Roy will feel like a dishnorable man, for dropping a player who's scored so many goals over the years for his nation? This is a genuine question - I find it odd that there's this accepted fact that Wayne is undroppable, without anyone really questioning exactly why.

Sponsorship? Commercial commitments? All those England posters/calendars/cards with Rooney on the front can't go to waste.

I'm not filled with expectation for the England team in this tournament as our centrebacks are poor at this level, but managers must try different formulas in friendly matches and as long as they take on board what they learn from them thats ok. I would pick Rooney over Vardy any day of the week but everyone has their favourites.
The England team which played prior to the 1966 world cup only had 4 of the team that played in the final.

Quite a lot is done for the sake of squad morale. Rooney is the captain, no? And one of the more experienced players around in a young group of players. Probably quite a lot of the younger players look up to him. An unhappy Rooney might be really bad for squad morale and going into the Euros with that might be negative for the group.

It might be that Hodgson is giving Rooney a chance. If he doesn't perform in the first couple of games of the Euros and is brought off that might make for a "smooth transition" to him starting a game on the bench and more or less accept it. Or at least the other players will see it like that and such a decision might not influence the squad as much. On the other hand if he does perform he really is a very good player.

I think England are in trouble. Kane looks knackered, Vardy is not playing where he prefers, Rooney is being shoved into the team at all costs which is totally disrupting the tactics. The protection of the defence is all down to one player in Dier. Centre backs are rubbish, Hodgson has completely lost the plot

Oh and apart from Euro 96 England are generally shockingly poor in the euro's

Oh well:)

I think the team on paper is great, the problem is as mentioned before its all disjointed.

For me, Vardy and Kane have to play central as does Alli......Rooney playing is pushing all three players out wide therefore we are comprising three quality players for one....

Thats typically England, think Scholes on the left etc

Has to be Rooney or Ali. I dont care which one, in fact I wouldn't mind Ali as a sub to start with....but we have to have a system, not try and accommodate players for the sake of it. Gerrard and Lampard all over again....please no.

I wouldnt pick him but Woy is going to put Rooney in somewhere, the question is where.

So if he is to be selected then id play him alongside Dier.

.....................Hart
Walker...Cahill....Smalling....Rose
...............Dier. ...Rooney
......Sterling....Alli......Lallana
.....................Kane

What about this for a radical suggestion. Pick players to play in their usual positions. The solution is simple for Hodgson if he has the balls to do it. Drop Rooney.

The Ali/kane combo up the middle has to be a starting point for the England attack.

Rooney would start for me, left of the three behind Harry, he'd make room for Rose by coming inside but also help cover the flank

the base of the midfield is the problem, Dier is going to have his work cut out making up for Henderson or Milner's deficiencies, this is where Bale is going to crucify us

agree about Alli and Kane, surely that's a lock, there is no reasonable alternative

I'd say Rooney played some of his most effective football for United on the left flank

Yep Rooney left maybe. Sterling has had a poor season and hardly deserves to start anyway.
