Igor the Interim

Huge job ahead for Tudor for sure.

This feels to me worse than last season with regards to league form. At least last season we had managed to stem the injury crisis somewhat. And at this stage I think had started prioritising the EL, meaning that we could go back to prioritising the PL if we had to.

Unfortunately the only real way to properly get a lift, get confidence back is through results. On the positive side one or two good results could make a big difference.
Last season we had the 2 or 3 wins around late Jan vs Brentford Ipswich and united iIRC
We haven’t had a win since last year this season
That’s the toxic part he has to fix asap

The reason it feels worse is there is a live consequence this PL season....and I'm sure the players have full awareness of that.

The biggest thing that can help us is players returning. The old 'like a new signing' trope does hold some weight here, and hopefully a returning player has less of the mental scars of the diminished group that have been playing regularly.

Of course we have to remember there is a flip side to this....it almost feels like it's a given players will be coming back BUT the common theme we should not forget, has been constantly losing players to the treatment room...we have to pray this theme doesn't continue.
And the small group that is currently taking the burden, are primed to be the next casualties.

One blessing is we skipped this round of the CL.....having midweek games (and travel) at the moment would be scary.

Fully agreed. Not being in the FA Cup and having a somewhat longer break before the NLD hopefully will protect them somewhat in the upcoming games.

Part of Tudor's job now is to manage that conflict between the need for results, ideally quick results and the need to not worsen or extend the current injury crisis. Said this before, but to me that ended up one of Frank's failures (later part of his stint, was good at that early on) and part of why he imo had to go.

But (and probably similar issue that Frank had)...is you're literally down to the bare bones (13 players) ...so unless you are going to really roll the dice and risk some (very) young players, this is all you have left.

Hopefully Solanke will feel 100% by Fulham, as with Richie only just back we can manage both their minutes.
Other positives are Tel and Muani don't have many miles in the clock this season, neither does Gallagher or Radu.
Romero should be bang on it when returning from his suspension rest.

I pray Romero VDV and Paulinha stay fit for the rest of the season.

It's not quite 13 to be fair - We had Solanke, Tel and Richi come off the bench (14) plus Souza available plus Porro and Danso due back this week and then Romero after suspension and Udogie potential return date around mid March. So looking slightly better for the time being at least...

Amen to that.🤞

Thank feck for Amorim being unable to deal with AngeBall so that we had those 6 points in the bag and could focus exclusively upon EL for the final 3 months of the season. Sadly not a luxury that Tudor will have this time around, so hopefully we get some first teamers back soon and then Crooked Joe’s kids shall show us the (transfer) money we’ve been promised in the summer; so that we don’t have to endure a 3rd consecutive season of watching our paper thin squad being PL cannon fodder.

Now we have Porro and Danso back in training, that is great news. Porro in particular for his wingback role...looking at who we have available we should be nowhere near the relegation zone. Mid table mediocrity? With our squad certainly. Others on here were more perceptive about how dreadful Frank was. I kept hoping that we would see a "pragmatic" manager who would turn the corner, but in reality he should have gone much sooner.

Not only are they players we need back because of where they play and how good they are but I think they are both good characters (based on the little bit I see) who'll be willing to fight a bit for the cause.

Also will have destiny and Romero back in the not too distant future
One of which owes the team big time
Suddenly the options do look better in some areas at least

The fact our players are all getting injured and the new gaffer claims they are not fit enough to be pressing is quite alarming. What have they been doing in training to be getting injured but not being fit enough? How many hamstring injuries have we had this season?

He brought his own specialist fitness coach, so that might start addressing some of the causes. Half our injuries seem to be thigh ones, which are pretty inexcusable.
Don’t think it will make a prominent difference with only a number of games to go. But I do agree it may be a case of damage limitation.

It seems that our previous managers suffered from a terrible injury hoodoo… I don’t know if that’s down to the players physical attributes, the medical staff, or the manager not recognising the red zone. It’s probably a combination of all three.
